I have a couple questions of my own for the track junkies out there...

I have been looking at getting a new set of track wheels and tires for my Black '03 Cobra. (I have an "ok" set now, but the SVT can handle bigger and better)......... I've been thinking about FR500 wheels wrapped in Nitto NT01's but there are tons of options (wheel height, width, color, tire size, etc.).

My flexible plans - Anthracite (sp?) FR500 18x9 non-deep dish with 275/35 Nitto NT01's.

What do you guys think about the Anthracite vs. Silver vs. Black FR500's on a Black Cobra? I figure the 275/35 tires will clear ok, could I go any wider???Also, any particular pads you recommend to use with the stock brakes?

I am planning on running in TDE Oct. 21/22, any tips for my first time to TWS?

If I haven't asked enough questions, let me know... I'm sure I can think of some more.
I can't really speak to the wheel issue as I've decided that a spare set of 95 Cobra R58 17X9 wheels shod with used 275/40R17 Kumho 710 race rubber was the ultimate solution for my situation.(It's a bang for the buck thing) Those 18" tires are big money and they get used up just as fast. I don't believe they offer the performance advantage to justify the price. But that's me.

If you are going to run your track pads all the time, then some compromises have to be made. The higher temp race/like pads dust more squeal more and wear rotors more... than the more street friendly lower performing(lower temp range) pads.

Something that I recommend to every one(except 1st timers) ..... is

Brake cooling through ducting.......... It is essential!!!! ........... and cheap and easy. Plus it will allow the successful use of a more street oriented pad for the "less hardcore" user.

Here is an excellent source.. http://www.svtperformance.com/forums...d.php?t=295546

I agree with Jimmy on the brake cooling ducts.

Also, for the price difference vs. performance difference, I would also look into 17's. The tires you picked should perform failry well.

As far as TWS.... do NOT early apex turn 7

You better be doing more than practicing! That's the final RACE weekend for NASA TX!!! I will have my beast there shooting for the AI title... You guys can get some good practice at the NASA DE event as there was a really low car count last time.....and they did some mock race starts in the 3/4 group!!

Oh how this car has morphed?!!! Link to tease you with! www.aggie97.com/tws/ What all mustangs should aspire to do!

Andy, I am assuming that the instructors need to sign up as before?

Let me check on this... I can't remember if you guys had to register first on the web site or just hand in your registration at our check in at the track. I will find out and let you (and all the other instructors) know asap!

See you all at the track!!

Looking forward to seeing the Texas crew again. Your AI/CMC contingent did you proud at the NASA Nationals last week. Had the Texas flag flying high over their compound and did well on the track too!

Just finished loading the truck to head to Gingerman in the morning.

Well we had a great time at the 2006 Cobra Nationals at Gingerman!! We even got to run on track a couple of sessions with Jack Roush Jr.!!

We are looking to make reservations and I was wondering about the Best Value Inn in Angelton. We stayed at the Best Western last year and it was nice but the Best Value is less expensive so anyone down there know how it compares to the Best Western???

We looked at the Best Value Inn - no problem, nice place. Just a little farther down the street.
