I think a lot of people don't see what their dues(as high as they may be) are going to. Our club, a bargain at $15/year, gets car shows, track events all backed by the club. I could compare SVTOA to SCMC all day and be blue in the face, but as I found out when searching for a club to join, I got the most out of my money by joining SCMC and have never looked back.

I really hope that they don't disban.....it seemed like they had some good times and really nice track events. And being backed by Ford is always a good thing.

May be a loss nationally, but no great loss locally (no offense to the current members intended). Tried to join (the highly advertised free 1yr membership) when I got my car. My experience was as follows:

At the time, you couldn't get your free year online - so I spent several days trying to get someone to call me back. Finally got someone to call me, and got a packet mailed to me. Spent several hours filling it out and paid postage to send it in. End result: Never heard from them again - and never got my membership.

I did keep an eye out for events for a year or so, but all of the SVTOA events in this part of the country were in Dallas. Finally found SCMC, and never bothered to pay attention to SVTOA again. Don't have time for more than one car club.

In fairness to anyone who currently heads up the local SVTOA chapter, I have heard the the big problem we have here is a dealer network that is largely unwilling to participate in or promote the group. They never had a problem charging people 5-10000 over MSRP or denying warranty claims though.

Same thing happened to me.

That is how I found this club. Lack of SVTOA doing stuff, but it's not their fault in the least, and the one thing I did do with them I had a blast.

SVT should cut us a check and back up our events since we are so efficient. More bang for their buck

SVT started the renewed muscle car movement wave and FRPP will ride it out. I think Ford feels like they do not have to run head to head with (for example) Chrysler SRT production line. SVT will rely on are self motivation to keep it alive and we will, the ones that love Ford Mustangs. No special production line, just a Mustang and FRPP will have all the aftermarket and the competition locked up. If they kick a$$ on the track,,,,,,, enough said.

See, I feel that more than ever Ford needs SVT. When SVT was started there was no real competition in that price range. Now as the other Big Two are stepping up, they are coming out with fast sport compacts, coupes, 4 doors, and Ford is just laying down and taking it. Unless Ford is going to continue to release cars and trucks like the SVTF and the L to compete with the likes of Dodge, I don't see it winning the wars. The GT500 alone cannot carry Ford to victory. Right now Ford has nothing out or coming out the impresses me in the least, and its not just because its not SVT stuff, I would much rather take a new SRT-8 of any kind of the GT500, and give me a Ram SRT-10 over an Adrenaline any day. Of course this is all my opinion, and yes I do drive a Focus...but I think Ford needs to step up again if they want to keep up.

I must profess my ignorance, because I was not aware that SCMC was independent of SVTOA. I guess because my experiences with SCMC and SVTOA here seem to always include the same folks I had incorrectly connected the two organizations.

All I can say is that I've truly enjoyed the time I've spent out with both organizations at the track. Time to step up and support SCMC by joining I'd imagine, but I don't own an SVT product so I'm a bit of an interloper.

Cool Svtoa / Scmc

I would have to agree with most of the above that locally they don't offer much and it is difficult for me to participate very much in the club I belong to, SCMC. I did send a reply concerning the possible demise of SVTOA. When we first took delivery of our Lightning SVTOA had a track event at Texas Motor speedway in Keller(Ft. Worth Texas ). We sent them an e-mail to see if it was too late to register, it was not so I registered on line and we left for Ft. Worth. The event was over the weekend and we had taken delivery of the L on Thursday. We had a good time and ironically that is the last Track event we have been to. SVTOA to me was just another link to the SVT product, nothing more. I got a couple of window stickers and a polished Stainless SVTOA lisense plate frame, oh and a key chain. That's it. I also agree that the Shelby 500 is not enough to pull the plow. Their new Marketing manager claims they intend to build 10,000 500's a year. and use a few as HALO vehicles at Dealers that qualify. What a joke. wonder who he thinks he is. Ford would need to sell somewhere in the range of 350,000 500's a quarter to satisfy the current situation at FORD.

Admiral,

Yes, we the SCMC, are independent from SVTOA as we were founded in 1999. SVTOA was started in 2001. Lot's of things had transpired between 1999 and 2001 but basically the folks at SVT saw what was happening with SVT Cobra Mustang Club and wanted to do the same thing only on a much larger scale. That's quite a big task for anyone to take on even Ford Motor Company. They wanted the Lightning Club, Contour Club, and the two Cobra organizations to join together to form one large SVT club. As you can see, that didn't happen and we all stayed pretty much independent except for the sheep. You lose your identity when you have multiple makes in one club and that's pretty much the reason all the clubs stayed intact. I'm still wondering what John Coletti meant at the SVT Experience in 2000 when he told me "I've heard about you guys".

I also encourage you to let your next Mustang be an SVT Cobra then.....

Thanks for the info and kind words.

I have to tell you, I've been saving my pennies for a new Cobra since they announced them last year but after reading the latest R & T, well, I may pass. At 4150 lbs that thing is in desperate need of a diet. I may just have to continue down my path of taking perfectly good old Mustangs and gutting them into race cars lol.

A 95 R would be cool - till I went to hit the A/C in the summertime!
