Where would you like to see the SCMC's 10 year Anniversary be held?

After some chatter at CMP last week, several members were talking about the SCMC's Ten Year celebration, so..... Where would you like to see the SCMC's Ten Year Anniversary be held?

Good idea....we're a NATIONAL club with members spread out all over the US. While the Carolinas are the "birthplace" of SCMC, it'd be nice to have a central location for people in California as well as the Carolinas to come out and enjoy the event.

somewhere in the middle of the country would be cool. I voted for VIR, but now would like to see it out in the middle of the country.

Memphis sounds like a good place to consider possibly.....I will add that the event would have a show and some sort of a cruise added to the list of things to have besides the open track weekend.

As much as I would love to do VIR I do think that having a central location is more important. This is the club's 10th anniversary and while VIR is awesome not all of our members are TRACKHEADS!

I have heard some both good and not so good about the Memphis Motorsports complex http://www.memphismotorsports.com/ but it is a central location, it has a road course that host SCCA events on a regular basis and a drag strip and a big lot for a car show. There are things to do in and around Memphis such as cruising the mountain roads of northern Arkansas and the boot heel of Missouri, rafting the rivers of notrth Arkansas, Reel Foot Lake is pretty as are other lakes and parks in West TN and eastern Arkansas, you have casinos in north Mississippi, Southland Greyhound dog track in West Memphis, Arkansas, Beale Street, Mud Island, Graceland, the Peabody, etc in Memphis.

Now don't get me wrong central VA has a lot to do also. Cruising the Shenandoah Mountains and Valley, sightseeing in Washington, DC, canoeing, hiking, horse back riding, antique shopping, and lots of unique bed & breakfast inns and restaurants. VIR is a GREAT track http://www.virclub.com/vir/ and there are dragstrips in the area also.

Distance wise Memphis vs. VIR
531 vs. 816 miles from Chicago, IL
634 vs. 189 miles from Rock Hill, SC
650 vs. 1196 from Houston, TX
897 vs. 1219 from St. Paul, Minn-e-soda
1324 vs. 681 from Boston, MA
1795 vs. 2518 from Los Angeles, CA

634 miles from Rock Hill? I am not afraid to drive as I can do that in 8 hours. Okay, I was exaggerating a little (Maybe not.. : ) but it can easily be done in a day for me and I don't have to have events in my back yard to go to them. It's a once a year thing (Nationals) and the 10th only comes around once so start saving now so you can be in the biggest gathering of SCMC members ever. I'm liking Memphis more and more now that I think about it...

Or if you want the absolute central location we could always follow Dorothy and go to Kansas! Topeka has a great road course and dragstip facility called Heartland Park. http://hpt.com/store/catalog/

Distance wise Memphis vs. VIR vs. Kansas
531 vs. 816 vs. 589 miles from Chicago, IL
634 vs. 189 vs. 1043 miles from Rock Hill, SC
650 vs. 1196 vs. 739 from Houston, TX
897 vs. 1219 vs. 500 from St. Paul, Minn-e-soda
1324 vs. 681 vs. 1495 from Boston, MA
1795 vs. 2518 vs. 1557 from Los Angeles, CA

However on a purely geographical basis it is the most central location with a track facility.

Memphis would be my vote as it has more to do after hours than Topeka!
