Played with a hemi today

Playtme and myself got together today for a short ride in the cobras. We went on a nice ride on some curve country road and came up to a main road and He pulls out and I follow and see a magnum hemi just getting on he catches up passes me and then gets next to playtme and is back in it agian and their off well I decide to keep up and get in the fast lane and get next to the hemi and its on but to his luck he didn't have what it took to keep up with the 03. I was hoping he would follow us into the parking lot but they just kept going. I noticed that the passange was know longer smiling when they went by this time.

I love it! I had my `97 vert out last sat. While stopped at a red light on rte 17 near the NC/SC border, along comes a new Dodge hemi p/u in the left lane. I just couldn`t stop myself when he got on it. He never knew what hit him. He gave up at about 85 and 10-15 lengths back, and I hadn`t hit 4th yet. They think because it`s a hemi they`ve got a race car. I DON`T THINK SOOOO!!!!!!

The 5.7 liter hemi is a tank. If they realized that it did not run on all 8 cylinders they would not bother to take any car on that does. However, wait for the Rs8 versions that have the 6.8L (?) which does not have the goofy cylinder management system. The Rt8 is the same 5.7L motor but not as beefy as the Rs8 hemi (supposed to be available in the Charger and soon the challenger if they make it). Basically it is all hype as a marketing ploy and they are not to be confused with the famed Hemi's of the early 60's. I am surprised that Dodge did not market it as the new wedge 440 motor which had more power than the hemi did in stock form. A friend of mine has one of those new Hemi ram 1500. So far I am not impressed. The RT10 Viper option would have been a better choice.

Perhaps they had too many 2x4's, amps and surfboards in it, oh wait that is only the case for the dodge mangnum.

Am I the only one that considers our mod motors hemis? I understand that when the spark plug is in the center of the combustion chamber that the heads are considered "hemi heads" therefore deducing our cars are hemis, too.

I myself call it a hemi also but most don't although it is basic the same way. The difference between our hemis is they make very awsome power and the others are sucking pond water.

Just a little help here guys, HEMI'S are called hemis for the shape of the combustion chamber in the head, not the placement of the spark plug. The dodge hemi is a nice engine, but because in a 5000lb truck, what more needs to be said, and same goes for a 4000lb four door sedan and station wagon. I think ausie is referring to the srt8 which comes with the 6.1 liter hemi. The 6.1 does not come with the multiple displacement option as the 5.7 does, which is only operational at cruise on the highway. but even the 6.1 is no match for the terminators. we are in a class by ourselves, but give up to dodge to have the gonads to bring back the hemi in the day when gas is over 2bucks a gallon!

BTW, nice kill!!

oops, next time I will visit the actual web site before using another companies model designations. Actually where the bogus Rs came from was an article on the new Challenger prototype which also had the new concept Camaro mixed in with it. For some reason the author of the article use the RS in the model type for the Challenger package RS-8 (should have been SRT but I think the RS came from the "rally sport" Camero from the late 60's Yenko RS Camero comes to mind. Oh well for what it is worth here are the simplified specs on the Dodge Charger:

Charger R/T 5.7L MDS Hemi, 340Hp, 390ft-lb, and a whopping 4031 weight
Charger Datona R/T, same as the above but with stickers, paint and weights the same as the R/T. expect lower than 13.49 ET's with a 200lb driver.

Charger SRT8 6.1L Hemi (no MDS here) 425Hp, 420ft-lb, 4160lbs (hey that almost weighs as much as my 96 Explorer) ET's close to 12.65 with same driver. ET's were estimated with one of those hp/weight calculators so I would expect the actual numbers to be a bit larger.

The only vehicle worthy of a challenge would be the Challenger whenever that hits the streets especially if it gets a weight reduction. At least it looks cool.

Terminators not required for this job

Prior to the trip to CMP I needed some work done on the car after its long winter's nap. After getting it road ready I decided to take the car out for a short shakedown run. I traveled east a couple of exits on I-94 then got off for the trip back. Coming down the on ramp a Dodge Magnum R/T moved over a lane to let me in (no other traffic close) and slowed so I would merge even with him. He then punched it to engage the Cobra. I downshifted to 3rd and put the gas pedal on the floor. After catching and passing the Magnum I slowed in case he wanted to go again, but he just fell in behind and stayed there. Even though 9 year old Cobras are getting long in the tooth those fangs were still lethal enough to make that Magnum owner think twice .
