When to begin using 100% synthetic oil?
I have 6,800 miles on a bone stock 2004 coupe. Is it too early to switch to a 100% synthetic oil like Mobil 1, etc? I have been using a FoMoCo synthetic blend.....changed every 2000 miles......1st change at 500 miles. Can anyone venture an opinion?
Thanks

bbrence~ I broke my Cobra in on regular oil and after 500 miles switched to full synthetic. Did that procedure on my last Cobra and also on the current '03. Full, Blend or regular is totally up to you. I've read numerous articles on the pro's and con's of what type/brand/interval to use and have come up with what suits me the best. That said, I use Castrol (if not available then Mobil One) and change the oil/filter every 2,000 miles. Cheers!

I went to full synthetic (Mobil 1) at the first oil change interval. I put enough miles on mine that I change it at the regular service interval (5k miles).

I also went with the full synthetic (mobil 1) at my first oil change, and I change mine every 3K.

At 6,800 miles it is perfectly safe to use full synthetic, personally I wouldn't use a full synthetic at less than 5000 miles. Although Mobil 1 is very good oil technically it isn't a true full synthetic.

Change the oil every 3000 miles unless using the Royal Purple, Amsoil which allows you to go to 5000 mile intervals.

Thank you to all
Thanks for the replies, everyone. They are appreciated.
I asked the question because I had read various comments from folks on several websites that said you shouldn't use synthetic oil until the engine is fully broken in...valves seated, etc. I think some went as far as to say to wait for 10,000 miles.....which seemed excessive. Everything I have read seems to indicate that synthetic oil reduces engine wear .......better than traditional motor oils. Does everyone agree that this is true? I am not too concerned about how long you can go between changes.....I will probably continue to change the oil every 2-3,000 miles. In the overall scheme of things, oil is still pretty cheap. Might not help.....but it can't hurt.
