Where to get good tune in New England?
Can anyone from New England recommend a place to get a good tune? A lot of members mention in other forums to go to Dan at Pro Dyno, but he's in SC. I live in MA. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I just e-mailed SCT for their recommendation. I currently have a tune with the Predator DiabloSport Power Programmer for my 2001 Cobra Convertible. My car is stock, with the exception of 3.73 gears and a K&N filter. I'm just not 100% sure I got the best tune I can get.
One month prior to swapping the gears and air filter I had a baseline run done on a Mustang Dyno and got 278.9 rwhp and 274.4 rwtq, which from what the shop tells me is in the right range for a stock 2001 Cobra Convertible (260 - 280 rwhp & rwtq). Then, I swapped the gears, air filter, motorcraft plugs, fuel filter, oil change and 93 octane and had another run done and the car only did 262.6 rwhp and 274.1 rwtq before doing the Predator DiabloSport Power Programmer. After several runs and some adjustments to the timing and a safe air/fuel mixture, gear update and program for 93 octane the shop was only able to bring the peak rwhp up to 270.2 (almost 9 hp less than my baseline run 1 month ago) and the peak rwtq increased by 3 to 277.4. This was not exactly the outcome I had hoped for. ![]() Out of curiosity, is it possible that the tune I have with the Predator is most I can get out of my current set-up / mods? Or do you think it is possible that a better tune, more rwhp and rwtq with SCT (assuming one is available for the 2001 Cobra)? I guess I'm not sure what the differnces are between the SCT and Predator units. Are my expectations too high for a car that basically has no engine or exhaust modifications? I'd like to get the car up to a solid 300/300 car without doing a supercharger or headers. Would the addition of a JLT Cold Air Intake, an X-Pipe with high flow cats (keep the stock cat-back system) and a re-tune get me alot closer? Are there any other relatively inexpensive mods that I can do to get to the 300/300 level? |

Craig, Did you have the car retuned? If so, who did it and what were the results? I've recommended Chris and MPE to a lot of people. He is very accurate as to what to expect from mods.

Hey Pat - no, I haven't had a re-tune since. I'm fairly comfortable with the tune I got, just the end results were a little disappointing. The tuner confirmed with a printout that my car was running fairly lean on the baseline (no mods) prior to the tune. The A/F never got any higher than 11.3 at it's peak and dipped way down to 10 and under for a good portion of the RPM range, 4000 - 6250. The tune I have now keeps the A/F safely between 11 and 13.1 pretty much throughout the RPM range.
The shop told me that adding the 3.73 gears and new gear oil and dyno'ing the same day may have affected the results too, as it didn't have time to wear itself in. Plus, it was a different day for the baseline compared to the day the gears and tune were done. The slightly warmer temperature could have been a factorr. The day I did the baseline was slighly cooler (maybe 5 - 10 degrees), plus the car had been cooled down. When the car had the gears put in, the car was test driven a little bit and brought in to the dyno already warm, maybe even a little hot. The shop did approximately 10 more pulls on the dyno, tweaking the timing, 93 octane and the A/F to finally get the best last result. It's hard to say, because it was not exactly comparing apples to apples. Bottom line is the car still runs well and feels like it has woken up with the new gears, so I'm happy. ![]() I've come to the realization that I'm happy with the way it is for now, but I have started saving up for the 9psi intercooled Kenne Bell supercharger they make for the 99 - 01 Cobra. If all goes as planned, I'll be in and slightly over the 400 rwhp range next summer ![]() ![]() |

My car will probably be retired from any track duty once the FFR Coupe is on the road next year. I'm considering installing a blower, probably a centrifugal unit, once that happens. Because I won't be looking to set and track records with it I'm looking for a reliable unit that I can just get in and drive. I won't need any particular HP number just a little more punch when I step on the gas. ![]()
