Deal of a Lifetime...Not SO MUCH

well, i picked up a 96 mystic that was pretty well track prepared last month. Griggs k-member, coil overs, a-arms, maximum c/c plates, FLSFC's torque arm, panhard, control arms, plus other goodies.

I took the car to Paul's auto eng. in Cinci to have them to go over the car from stem to stern to make sure everything is up to speed before the season. Boy, I am glad that I did, but my wallet is going to be pissed. Come to find out the power steering pump is leaking, and need to be replaced. Both rear Koni shocks are cracked, and need to be replaced. Who ever did the install screwed up the front coil-overs, and the bearings are fused, and need to be replaced. The griggs k-member and a-arms are full of rust, and the shop thinks it would be wise to replace for fear of cracking while on the track.

What would you guys do. I am already going to have over $1000 bucks without replacing the k-member and a-arms. Would you replace them with MM stuff, or wait till something cracks.

if I did replace the k-member and a-arms, what arms would you go with, off-set???? Delrin???? Urethane?????

Any help would be great!

Just my opinion, but MM + Delrin.

!
Is it surface rust or good old, mid-west, salty winter road rust??

If surface rust, clean em up. If other than surface corrosion, replace them, last thing you want is an A arm failure under braking..

Well, final verdict is better then at first thought, but not by much. Final bill after new power steering pump, high pressure line, 2 new rear koni's, new bearing in front suspension, and new bearing ands shims in the rear end, and a crap load of labor....$1900 and change. So my deal of a lifetime became a "pretty good deal". I guess what dad always said once again was true....

" If you think it might be to good to be true...it probably is!"

Looks like my summer budget just went out the window! Time to start all my pennies!

Mojo,
Did you buy Steve F's car? I hadn't seen it for a few years, so I didn't realize it was in that condition. I would have bought it if I could have worked out the finances.

A 10 year old car was bound to need attention. Hopefully you can just wirebrush and POR 15 the Griggs bits, but beware, there have been some Griggs K-member failures over the years, so keep a sharp eye out for any cracking at the joints.

It sounds like you have everything else under control now, so enjoy.

Yes, that is Steve F's car. I would have thought it would have been in better condition than that, too.
