KB Front Strut Brace Install Question

Ok, I've read all the posts I can find regarding whether the front strut brace is a worthwhile mod or not. I've already got the KB Extreme Matrix kit and also picked up a used KB front strut brace. I'm waiting for a set of Steeda camber/castor plates to arrive and am also looking for some quality replacement struts. Assuming that I go ahead and install the KB front strut brace. What is the proper technique for drilling the holes through the firewall? It's a scary thought to just drill the holes through the firewall without knowing exactly what's on the other side. I can see the drill bit wrapping all kinds of electrical wiring around it and tearing the hell out of wiring and whatever else is on the inside of the firewall.. Also, should I install a steel backing plate on the inside of the firewall? I'm thinking the firewall metal is probably pretty light gauge steel?
Any thoughts and suggestions are highly appreciated!

I just installed a Maximun Mototsports strut tower brace. I know that they are a little different then the Kenny Brown but they give you good instructions for the installation. Here is the link to the instructions. I hope this helps.

The firewall is pretty thin.

IMOHO, the firewall attachment is not really for bracing, more for "balance", so that the STB doesnt rotate between shock towers. You want to keep the towers from flexing toward each other, not really tower-to-firewall.

I used large washers on the backside of mine, access by removing the grill where the wiper mechanism located.
