Did I waste my money? Or should I say wasted more money!
I picked up an item on ebay maybe a year ago and have been in the garage today scratching my head on just what the heck I did. BTW, I have a 1999 SVT Cobra, pretty much stock except for a few items I've added on such as Bassani SS exhaust, C&L cold air kit and a couple of Kenny Brown suspenstion items.
The description of what I have is as follows: "MSD Coils and JBA 8mm Wire High Performance Ignition Kit-'96...'99 Mustang Cobra and '93...'98 Lincoln Mark VIII 4.6L DOHC V8". Per the invoice that came along with it, it was purchased from "Massive Speed Systems" and retailed for $214.95 plus shipping. I did pay much less than that but fear that I wasted my money. I took the spark plug covers off and for the life of me I cannot see how those new spark plug wires are going to work and I can't even find out where the stock coils are. The new coils consist of 2 MSD coil packs. When I look at my daughters '97 Explorer it's easy to see the 2 coil packs on her 5.0L engine, but I cannot see them anywhere on my Cobra 4.6L engine I also have a set of Ford factory technicians books for the 1999 Mustang, all models and it doesn't mention anything about coils other than they are on the spark plugs. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? (other than "what a dummy this guy is") Thanks, John |

Ok, I did some research which I probably should have done before asking my stupid questions about this.
I found the manufacturers parts numbers and googled them, turns out, at least from most websites that these are indeed for the 1996-1998 Cobra 4V engines. The real weird part is that a few websites do in fact have these listed as working on the 1996-1999 Cobra 4V DOHC engine. So even though I did get a good price on these items, it ain't so good when it don't fit! Well, here are the parts numbers and I'm going to put them on sale for a few days here at the club and will sell them both cheap, much less than what I paid for them). If no one wants them I'll put them back on ebay along with a note on what these really fit... MSD Coil Pacs-part number 8241 and per most websites these will work on the 1995-1998 Cobra 4V. JBA Power Cables-High Performance Part number 06229 and per most websites these will work on the 1996-1998 Cobra 4V. As the old saying goes, "let the buyer beware" and I don't mean that for anyone but me. I should have done more investigating before purchasing these from a guy on ebay, even though the invoice that he provided does in fact say that they will work on the 1996-1999 Cobra 4V. Live and learn...John |

99\01 Cobras have coil on plugs. As you have found out, not plug wires or coil packs. Someone with a 96-98 Cobra might want them.

Thanks for the feedback, it's weird how different websites list different years that these will fit on. While in fact it appears that they will only fit on the '96-'98 Cobras.
I suspect the guy I got these from on ebay must have found out too late to return them to the company that they didn't really fit on the '99 model. Sure sucks that he didn't mention that fact when he put them up for bid....like I mentioned earlier, even the invoice says that they will work on the '99 Cobras... |
