1968 Shelby GT 500
Anyone know of any groups or forums for the 68 Gt500's? I found one and I have a few questions about them and didn't know where to turn to. I tried yahoo groups but didn't see much there. Thanks in advance.

Found a 68 Shelby. I'm assuming its a GT500 because it came with a 428. The 428 is blown. The car has been inside since 1974. So, with a 428 its a GT500, right? And what was the difference in a KR? So I guess I'm not sure if its a KR or a GT500, or know what the differences are. Its been in a narrow trailer so I couldn't look at the sides. I know its a one owner, Tasca sold car. Just trying to put a value on it. Its solid but has to be totally gone through from sitting. The owner, who is in his 80's wants to part with it but will only sell it to me if I keep it and not turn it for a profit. So I don't want to get burned.

The way I understand it is that the 68 GT 500's are 428 police interceptor engines with a cast iron intake. Their were several 68 fastbacks that were not Shelby's that were used for drag racing, I think they were Holman/Moody cars. They were all white with black interiors and they had the first of the CJ engines.
1968 was the first year of the CJ and it was after the 68 model started so depending on when the car was made you may or not may have a CJ. Take a flash light and look at the head castings and see if they have a "C80E" marking on them. If they do then they are CJ heads. The cast iron exhaust will have special bolt patterns going diagonal as these manifolds are oddly shaped like a hand and are specific to the Mustang/Fairlane, unless at that time they mayhave used 390 GT manifolds, not sure.

Gt 500
Please call only the SAAC registry people on this, if you start calling collectors and people that restore them you will be just about telling them where the car is, I had a 66 350 sold it a few years back, If you want send me a pm, and I will give you a good contact # of someone who will tell you what it is, and not try to buy it from you. Thanks
