The SCMC and Ted Russell Ford invite you to come out and enjoy a weekend with us in Knoxville, TN. The event consist of a Mustang and Ford Show along with a "Dragon" cruise through the mountains on Sunday. The Dragon consists of 318 curves in 11 miles and is located on Hwy 129 between TN and NC.

I'd love to compete in the car show, but i'm not too fond of the way it's classed....

Question: Why are the 93 thru 01 cobra's in the same class? There were 3 different designs in that period. I could see putting the 94-01 together because they have a similar look but the 93 was completely different.

It just wasn't like this when I competed a couple years ago...

I think the problem is that there aren't enough 93 Cobras that enter that class so therefore you have to combine classes. I can go back and do some research but I believe that is the reason.

Making a class for just one or two cars is not a good way to classify cars for a car show, we try to class it by 5 cars per class. We have 25 classes and that's a lot more than when we started out with just 15. TRF also gets unique awards and free event tees to the first 75 that register. No show is perfect, we're not going to make a class for just two cars knowing that is what was there in the past. Now, if we make a class for 5 or more cars and only two show up that year, then that is a different story. We had that happen one year with the Mach 1's, one year 5 showed up, the next year only two. We have consistently had entries go down for the fox body Cobras, with all of that said, we do "add" classes when we have a lot in one class or split the class. For example, if there are no 2010-2011 Shelby's in their class but there are 5 Fox Body Cobras, then we'll add the Fox body class and drop the Shelby class. I'm not saying that is what is going to happen, I'm saying that we do have flexibility when no one is entered in a particular class. I hope that explains it a little better? If you want a separate fox body class, then I encourage you to get more fox body cars to enter the competition.

Also, try to think of the value of the car show when you attend one. How many car shows offer what we offer for $20.00 ($25.00 day of show)? You get the following:

1. Free event tee if you are one of the first 75 to register
2. Free Lunch for the family and that could be 4 or more people (Worth more than $20.00)
3. A chance to win one of 75 awards
4. An opportunity to see other cars and meet other owners with like minded interests
5. Portable Dyno available to measure your hp
6. The only show that gets unique awards (Like the TN shaped plaques two years ago)

When you think about it, it's a pretty good value and although this may not satisfy your concerns, for now, it is a pretty good deal for those who want to be a part of the event.

Okay, you've officially made me look like a complete jerk for asking that question lol

I completely understand your rational, it's just the classes are different from when I competed a couple years ago and was just curious why things were different.

For the record, I love the show and look forward early October just because of it. I just don't know if i'm going to compete this year. I know i'll be there for sure, I just don't know if i'll have time to get the car ready for the stiff competition I know will be there.

As a side note, I randomly thought to get on here and look to see when the show was this year, that's when I asked the question, then I get home and coincidentally, the show news letter shows up in my mail box. Funny how that worked out.

You guys do a great job. Can't wait!!

1989, I was trying to be honest and explain, wasn't trying to make you look bad but wanted you to understand that each year there are more newer cars and the older ones get scarcer and scarcer. You may also want to consider other categories to enter like the "daily driver" if your car qualifies for that class. Car shows can be funny, you have to know what class to enter in and see what your options are. Glad you'll be coming out either way.
