Used '07 Shelby GT500, 5 MPG, What the....?

I just purchased my second SVT Cobra, a 2007 Shelby Cobra GT500 w/32K+ miles. It was originally a lease (3 yrs) from up in Raleigh, NC way. I noticed the computer listed the average mpg @ 5.2. I thought this may be a mistake until I filled the tank up, drove half and half city/hwy and did the math. WOW!!!! 6 mpg .
What's going on here and what is the best approach to run it through a diagnostic check or something?
Should I take it to an SVT dealer and ask to check the tune? How to find out were and what has been done to it?

I'll start off with, hopefully, some easy questions, as I'm sure I'll have more. That's why I've come this forum. To get help, make friends and maybe even pick a few brains on some mods. I'd also like to get together with like minded SVT owners here in NE Georgia to lend a helping hand with those tasks that require a third hand, or second if one is occupied with a beverage.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers!!!!

welcome. I would give the car time to get used to your driving to get the mpg more up to normal. You have to figure, some people drove the car, and drove it hard, bringing the mpg's down.

I daily drive a 2000 Explorer Eddie Bauer with the 5.0 V8 motor. It has the mpg readout. When I bought it, it was displaying 15.2 mpg average. It slowly came up with my driving style. Now, I am averaging 19.1 mpg in it.

If you are saying you drove through a tank full of gas, recorded the number of miles you actually drove and divided by the number of gallons of gas you just put back into the tank and came up with 6 mpg, then I would say either you are driving a road course or something is seriously wrong.

5.4s aren't known for getting good fuel mileage. If you bought a Shelby for getting fuel mileage, you made a big mistake.
