Car & Driver Puts 2003 SVT Cobra to the test (finally)
June's Addition of Car & Driver has the new Cobra headlined and on the cover.
They reported 4.5 sec (0-60) and 1/4 mile at 12.9 @ 111mph. Here's Car & Drivers findings: ACCELERATION 0-30 ..... 1.9 0-40 ..... 2.7 0-50 ..... 3.6 0-60 ..... 4.5 0-70 ..... 5.7 0-80 ..... 7.1 0-90 ..... 8.7 0-100 ..... 10.4 0-110 ..... 12.7 0-120 ..... 15.3 0-130 ..... 18.5 0-140 ..... 23.9 0-150 ..... 30.5 Street Start (5-60 mph) ... 4.9 Top-Gear acceleration (30-50 mph) ... 8.2 Top-Gear acceleration (50-70 mph) ... 7.6 Standing 1/4 mi. .... 12.9 sec @ 111 mph Top Speed (governer) ... 155mph BRAKING 70-0 mph @ impending lockup.... 182ft Fade ..... none HANDLING Roadholding (300 ft-dia skidpad) ... 0.90 g Understeer ..... minimal PROJECTED FUEL ECONOMY EPA city .... 16mpg EPA highway.... 23mpg C/D-odserved .... 13mpg INTERIOR SOUND LEVEL Idle .... 48db Full throttle..... 82db 70mph cruise .... 75db 70mph coast ..... 75db My opinion: - smiles at every gas stattion.  - slow to brake (compared with corvette, audi TT Camaro) - definitely going to be fun to drive - can't wait.... this one will get people wondering what's under that hood. |

The wife gave me the go ahead for a new 2003 Cobra for next year. I'm going to see how they pan out before I jump into the fire. That means Fireball will be going up for sale in the latter part of the year. Currently he has 14,000 miles on him.

Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords did a road test and pulled off a 12.67 in strong headwind twice on street tires! I don't know what grandmas over at Car and Driver are doing these tests. I have read their articles on 98 cobras...they say 14.1 1/4 when I have seen someone do 13.37 on drag radials STOCK. geez, stop granny shifting
anyway, MM&FF said it handled even better than the cobra R. I'd have to see that for myself but it must have really impressed them. Too bad I can't get one now...maybe the 2005 cobra....

I haven't decided on a price because I haven't even looked up the book value but the car is cherry and it ran a 13.4@102 mph on an 80 degree day. I think it is capable of lower then that with a much better driver then me. But then, if I just had some practice I might would be better.  Probably around low to mid 20's to be honest with you.
