Question Wheel wobble?!

A friend of mine from work told me he was driving behind me and thought my passenger side rear wheel was wobbling. Today after work I had a friend of mine drive the car in a parking lot and he was right! Any ideas? A friend of mine from Carolina Mustang said to check the axle flange and wheel.

EDIT: Oh and this is on top of losing my latest contract because the customer isnt sure if they want an onsite pop3 server or farm it out. I already did 3 hours of a 10 hour job and its looking like I am getting stiffed!

Take your wheel to a place that has a computer wheel balancer. They can tell if the wheel is bent or not. Once that is eliminated a place with a dial indicator will tell you if the axle is bent.

This is probably a stupid question, but did you check to see if your lug-nuts were tight???? But yes, i'd take it to an alignment shop to see if the wheel is bent.

smashedheadcat: Only questions that are stupid are those that go unasked. I did check the lugs and spacer lugs again this morning.

This morning I checked lugs and spacer lugs. They were tight. I swapped the passenger side wheels to see if the wobble followed the wheel and it didnt. So I now have Moser axles sitting on the living room floor and plan to try and get them in this weekend. None of the ford dealerships here had ABS rings in stock so I had to pay overnight FEDEX from another dealership. I have axles, wheel studs, TA diff cover and should have ABS rings tomorrow. The plan is to get to a machine shop tomorrow and have the ABS rings and wheel studs pressed into the axles. If time permits I am going to start tomorrow. I had to get the TA cover because mine is bent and I am not putting it back on. Would have replaced it sooner but I wanted to wait until I had a reason as it wasnt leaking.

The only good news is my contract came through after all and I will get paid in a few weeks. It sucks that I had to spend my roll bar money on this but it had to be done.

Anyone have any words of wisdom before I start?

Hmm....... My buddy had a wheel wobble problem back in the day he said. It ended up being a terribly warped rotor...... The lugs would tighen down, and the wheel was snug to the rotor, but the darn thing wobbled. That's what he said, and i s'pose it makes sense. Okay, words of wisdom..... here goes. I tackled an axle install about a year and a half ago. The only problem was removing and reinstalling that cheap "locker" that ford puts in. It looks like a figure 8 type thing. It's very easy to break. So be careful with it. I think it was the locker, i've never seen anything like that in an older mustang 8.8, so that's what it had to be. Anyway, it's a pain in the bum.

All the parts made it and I even found a machine shop to press everything together for $25! Woohoo! I didnt think it was going to happen but it did. I didnt start today because I havent had but about 2 hours of broken sleep in the past 36 hours. Not a good time to start any work on the car. Looks like I will start tomorrow morning or lunch time whenever I awake from my coma.

Hmmm are you talking about the s clip? I had one person tell me leave it in and another say they couldnt get the c clipts out without removing the s clip. I have a haynes and plan to follow it keeping advise I have been given in mind. I know to becareful about the abs sensors and might remove them so as to not damage them.

You don't need to take out the spring to get the c-clips out. Just take out the 8mm pinion shaft bolt, then the pinion shaft will slide out, allowing the axles to push in far enough to pull out the c-clips. If you have a magnet, that's the easiest way to get the clips out.

Make sure you take tha ABS sensors off so that the axles can be pushed in far enough. Although it's a "reverse torx" bolt, I use a 1/4" closed end wrench to take it off.

EDIT: I just realized I'm typing this on Janis' computer. My is broke. So, anyway, this is Tom talking...
