Woodward Dream Cruise

Anyone planning to attend the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit, August 16 and 17?

The City of Ferndale will sponsor Mustang Alley in Woodward Ave. and Nine Mile Road area. Ford will put on Revvin With Ford at locations in the City of Birmingham on the the 17th. SVT will have a large display on Woodward in the City of Royal Oak. The Living Legends Tour will be at the Dream Cruise, not sure of location.

SVTOA is sponsoring Mustang Assembly Plant Tour and Henry Ford Museum tour during the day on the 16th and that evening will have a show and shine and barbeque. On 17th providing convenient parking for cruising hang out and some of show and shine participants will have their cars included in the SVT display!

Woodward Dream Cruise is an attempt to relive the muscle car era of cruising Woodward Avenue between the cities of Detroit and Pontiac. It has been such a success that corporate displays now dominate curbside on Woodward and it is not uncommon to see corporate execs out cruising in concept cars!

Ford pulled out all stops with a four square block Revvin with Ford car show in Birmingham. It included two stages for live entertainment and two huge hospitality tents. The entrance to one of the tents was flanked by GT40's.

Further down Woodward in Berkley, Ford erected the Mustang Drive In. On Friday evening the Drive In was all SVT as the SVTOA held a show and shine picnic. The Cobras and Lightinings made an impressive sight parked between the Mustang Drive In stage and the Living Legends Tour truck. There were many envious glances from the Mopar and GM faithful passing by on Woodward. On Saturday, the parking area of the Drive In was filled with vintage Mustangs owned by Ford employees while on stage live classic rock performances had the area rocking. Highlighting the performances was a one and a half hour concert by the Mitch Ryder Band with Mitch belting out "Devil With A Blue Dress" as the closing number.

Two blocks South of the Mustang Drive In was the SVT display. SVE project cars such as GT90, Super Stallion and 94 Boss were there along with representitive cars from each year of SVT's ten year production history.

If that wasn't enough, the City of Ferndale hosted Mustang Alley. Two blocks of Nine Mile Road were closed and two municiple parking lots reserved for an all Mustang car show. Displays by Roush, Saleen, SHM, PHP, etc. made it a Mustang junkies paradise.

Two great days of automotive overload.
