I ask all you cleaning freaks out there for assistance

How do you clean your engine bay? I really need to clean my mustang's engine bay. I am curious, how you all do it?

got this one from someone on the forum (i think it was Andy...not sure though)

get the engine warm (not hot or operating temp), just warm
spray Simple Green (you can get it at automotive stores) on the engine, hoses, etc.
let it sit for about a minute or so and then hose it off with water (gently so it doesn't splash all over your paint)
then take it out after you hose it off and run it until its good and hot (i take mine out for about 5-10 minutes)
come home and let it sit with the hood down (it acts like an oven and evaporates the remaining water with no spots)
that's what i did and it worked like a charm.

Do that, and spray some CD2 on the engine(you can buy it at Target or AutoZone), then wipe the CD2 off/rub it in to the black parts. Take before & after pics!!!

If it is real bad, use Castrol Super Clean. I used that on my dirty '88 GT and it cleans everything, wires vaccum lines and so on. But I recommend using glooves, because it will dry you hands out. I would only use that if the engine is really nasty.

My question to you Evilcartman would be how clean do you want it? The next question would be how much time do you have? Some of us spend a great deal of pain and effort to keep the engine bay looking like you could eat off of any place under the hood. If you have not seen Topless at one of the shows the next time you see her just ask to check hers out. And her car is a daily driver!

Yes, I agree w/ what the others say...Simple green is good if it is nasty, but be careful on your soft plastic covers, it will eat them.(wire covers) etc.
I'm lucky to have a car wash right across the street from my subdivision, and I spray the engine down every time I wash it. Always take towels w/ you to dry before your chrome spots. If you do it enough, it will stay relatively clean , except for maybe a little dirt and dust, So It should not be such a major undertaking every time you do it. Qtips and a wheel brush helps get into tight places. I like to use Wenol on my polishing and Chrome. Mothers is good too. And I too, would LOVE to see a pic of it when you get it done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck!!!
