Brake Cooling

Hey Girls,

I was wondering if anyone can help me out?

I have seen a really nice pkg. for brake cooling. It has everything you need, including the backing plate that forces air onto the rotor from about a 1/2" away. I think it cost about $150.00. Originally, I wasn't going to spend the $$, but after thinking about it, and seeing it live & in person this past weekend in Kershaw, it may be worth it.

I am one person that takes no chances when it comes to brakes on the track. $150.00 seems awfully cheap compared to loosing brakes and either bending sheet metal or worse yet getting someone hurt.

Brakes are the last place to save money at if you are going to be running at the track. Is that brake duct kit aimed at the rotor surface or the inside of the rotor?

I can attest that the ducts really keep my brake pads/rotors cool enough to almost never fade or boil the fluid. Originally, in my first mod package, I had the Sean Hyland kit which had carbon fiber plates funneling the air to the rotors. Cost was about $300. After a year or so, the carbon fiber pieces began cracking, warping and rubbing on rotors. I just replaced them a month ago with Mirage Motorsports aluminum ones, which had a better duct piece as well, and cost half as much. I highly recommend these.

Just ran at Mid-America last weekend and I am thoroughly happy with them.

Who you callin' girls?

Got any pictures of this package? I'll be fabbing my own on my next car and would like some ideas. Like Thomas said: make sure they duct to the center of the rotor. And $150 is a great price...

tom, i don't know if you saw this over at CC.com, but it's an interesting read, along with some damn nice ducts. if you ever fabbed something similar to these, let me know, i might be interested also, IF my carbon fiber ducts do what Dave's did....

while it does go in and kinda hammer the Mirage ducts, i think any amount of cooling would be beneficial. i haven't noticed any warping on my ducts as of yet, seems the mass of the Baer rotors tend to help keep them cooler also. should have seen my blues before and after RA in september. could hardly tell i even used them. (of course dean was kind enough to point out i have to go fast enough to wear them down....LOL)

Another thing I had to do recently due to brake heat was replace the bushings at both ends of the tie rods. Both of the stock rubber ones has pretty much disintegrated. We put on poly ones.

dave, that i've heard also. they also do a poly boot for the ball joint. i'm heading to the adjustable tie rod route, front and rear, so the boot wouldn't be necessary, but the ball joint covers would.
