Unhappy '03 Cobra rear-end

Just received my new 03 cobra, and after I got familiarwith the car, began to notice a slight whine from the rear-end. So, with 500 miles on it, I had to take it to the dealer. They are in the process of getting all the parts to completely replace the rear. The tech thought that one or more pinion bearings were defective. I hope they know what they're doing, 'cause it sure hurts to have this done on a brand new cobra! Has anyone ever heard of problems with these rears?

Sloop,

I have heard all sorts of rear end problems with the 03's, from vibration to rear covers exploding at the dragstrip. Mabe they didn't put enough gear oil in it and that caused the problem??

Sorry to hear that!

Cobrabitn,

That's pretty scary stuff. I figure I'll spend my warranty period periodically listening and analyzing the condition of the rear. I figured if anything these would be bulletproof to be able to handle 400 HP. After all these years, you'd think they'd get it right! Thanks for the reply!
