New mac catback
Purchased the catback by Mac 1 month ago. It is rusting inside now. This car is not driven much. Should I call the shop back and have them replace it or go with a different brand or stick it out? Thanks.

I still suggest Magnaflow or Bassani. Looks great and everyone I've ever talked to about them haven't had any problems. All you hear about are problems with any Mac products with regards to modular motor cars.

mac is galvanized aluminum i think.
it will last you a long time but you will get rust on the inside but it isn't damaging or really bad. I have a similar setup on my Jeeps and it has worked great since '95. How does it perform/sound? Other than the little rust, are you happy with it? got any dyno #s or track times? ![]() |

Sounds good but looks bad on inside of pipe. Will this cause it to rust through? Some dyno #'s... My 03 only had 200 miles on it when the dyno was done.. before catback was 352 rwhp after catback & open air was 389 rwhp. Expecting higher #'s after some more miles on it. Just now reached 1000 miles.

you dhouldn't have any problem of it rusting through. I lived up in Minneapolis for 3 winters and even then the exhausts still held up strong and still looks great.
what size are the exhaust tips on yours? 2.5", 3" or 3.5" if you are concerned about the looks then you could get some long stainless steel tips. I usually don't like the look of the bolt on exhaust tips though. But maybe if you get them long enough then nobody would see where they bolt on. You could also see about getting a pair of baffles that slides inside of your existing exhaust tips. Bassani makes some that might fit depending on what size your exhaust tips are. This would hide the rust that you see. congrats on your dyno #s. They look really strong considering you dynoed with only 200 miles on her. ![]() |

I have the MAC 3" cat back with 3.5" tips on my 01. It looks as good now after 1200 miles and then sitting all winter in the garage as it did the day I bought it. Inside and out. I would talk to the dealer you bought it from! BTW, the pipes are alluminized steel. they may eventually rust a little, but should not have in less than 600 miles!!!

A note about the Basanni baffles:
It's SIMPLE to install them. Simply grind down the welds on the back "reducing cone", slide the cone off, slid the baffle into the Mac tip till it's flush with the bottom of the MAC tip and secure with two set screws in the back of the tip. Simple and sounds GREAT! ![]() ![]()

Spoke w/MAC and they said this was normal for 03 w/supercharger-more condensation. Anyway we took the tips off, scrubbed the rust out put rust converter in them and then spray painted the black 1000 degree paint in them. Looks better than the rust hope it works.
