Great Video!
How's the rear end on the car? Figure out what the problem was from the Sunday run? Craig

That's what I'm screamin! When you doing another school Jason? I'm about to get nasty with the car. Cage is going in, new seats(and harnesses to keep my fatass in the seat), and gonna rip those Eibach springs out and start over with something from MM, just gotta decide if I wanna go with Coilovers or not. I'm not going totally extreme, but gotta get some basic stuff that's better than what I have. What do you have planned for the Cobra?

As far as the Cobra goes...for now I'm going to just do some minor stuff. First on the list is some better tires (the H rated pieces of crap that I'm running now just don't cut it ). I really want to learn as much as I can on a "stock" car before I start making major changes. Ultimately, the car will have the MM Maximum Grip kit on it...but that's in the future. Go for the coilovers...no sense in doing things twice!! |

Hey Jason, I'm not sure if I put this back in the "where" thread, but it was in the thread that got deleted from the SQL problem: http://www.planetmustang.com/Movies/...3/MOV00126.MPG This is the outside view from that previous video... |

So, I'm taking it that the coilovers make a huge difference. I agree with not having to do things twice. My eibachs are just way too soft IMO. Should I just call MM or Griggs and get some feedback from them on what I need, or would you have a good coilover suggestion? First on my list is the basic stuff (aside from the cage and other safety stuff), Coilovers, C/C plates, and IRS bushings.

John, you looked awesome out there!!! Can't wait to run with you again. If that was the first lap of the race you did a good job of keeping your cool. I really like how you weren?t afraid to go up the inside of that red car. Keep up the hard driving.

There's a lot of reasons for coil-overs. I'm not a good person to hear them from though because I'm rusty after being gone for so long. But, one big advantage is the adjustable ride height at each corner. That allows you to corner weight the vehicle for better balance and also to fine tune the overall ride height. Calling one of the above mentioned companies is an excellent idea. My vote is Griggs, but MM is just as good.

See, that "adjustment" part is what bothers me. I wouldn't know how much or how little to adjust something like that. I'd have all 4 wheels with different settings....LOL. The car would be an inch higher on the left than on the right, etc. Guess I like things simplified for me. If I go coilover, I'd have to hire you to "tweak it" for me. Coil-overs sound scary.

When I got mine from Griggs, the instructions include the recommended ride height. The front was measured off the bottom of the k-member mounting point to the ground. I don't remember for the rear. That's the place to start. Then, from there, you would adjust each corner based on the weights at each wheel. That's normally the only fine tuning you would need to do and it's not a requirement.
The point about adjusting the ride height is an advantage but it's nothing you need to mess with on a regular basis. The ride height is affected by the weight of the car, so it only needs to be adjusted if that changes. Now, that being said, I'm sure there is some fine tuning that would be done from track to track or for different conditions. I never did any of that and I wouldn't know where to start. That gets into suspension stuff that I'm still trying to learn.

Tom, I think you went from the regular spring/shock combo to coil-overs. Did you notice a big difference overall? I'm just wondering if a good H&R (race springs)/Bilstein setup would give the same response with the car. Basically I'm asking, would coil-overs allow me to carry 5-10 more MPH through the "kink" as opposed to a basic setup.

Gasp! I just checked out the different coil-over spring rates at MM's site. How would one ever make a decision? There is like 12 different spring rate possibilities for the front alone.
