Night series autox (and back to street tires)

Sorry no pictures or video this time. I really need an in car video setup later this year. Anyway I went back to street tires to exaggerate my weak points on course. It worked! There are never any other mustangs to compare to but my times were dropping much easier than I expected because I knew where I was screwing up.

How much of a time difference did you notice from the R compounds to the street tires?

Its hard to say because the course is always different. If I compare times to fast time of the day from the 2 event I went to I am still 6 seconds off FTD. That was 6 seconds on R tires one event and 6 seconds on street tires. On the R tires I was having a much harder time getting faster without someone sitting in the car to give me feedback. While I dont mind having someone help me it is Solo racing so I feel like I should be able to find and correct my own driving problems at some point.

It is definitely hard to tell if you improve sometimes due to the course always changing. Good luck getting faster on the R's...keep us posted!!

I am probably going to stay on street tires for a couple more events and work out some of my bad habits. This last event made me feel really good about looking far enough ahead. There were several "old timers" making noise about the course being hard to read because they got a couple DNFs missing gates. I didnt get a single DNF because I was looking way ahead to make sure I didnt get surprised by anything. This is one of my bad habits I have been working on for almost a year, well that and a little more patience will help me some.

You really have to change your driving style when moving from street tires to R compounds. For me, I was able to put down power coming out of turns sooner. The rear did not drift as much going through slaloms. Turn-in was much better than on street tires. HOwever, the key to all of these is smoothness...as you know.

Later bud,
Dave
