steeda timing adjuster

I got a good deal on a steeda timing adjuster(125.00) at the fun ford show at Norwalk, Ohio this past wekend. It is 2 weeks old and not evan a sctrats on it. Guy took it if because he had a custom burnt chip and didnt need it.

I put the TA on and starting out at 13 deg. Dose this sound good for starters? After I put it on and I drove it and herd no pinging at 13 deg.
If you have one of these on your cobra what are you running yours at?

Mine is a 96 and I always run 93 or 94 actane.

Thanks Kerry Miller

Start at adding 2 degrees of timing and go out for a spin. Pull to high rpm and listen for detonation. If none is present add another 2 degrees. Continue this step until you need to back down. Back down 1 degree of timing until detonation stops (maybe go ahead and back down another to be safe).

The BEST way to do it would be on a dyno measuring A/F ratios with each change. There are times when adding timing doesn't add any power at all and it would be better to run less timing if you aren't increasing power. No two engines are going to respond exactly the same so you have to find out what works for your car.

I run mine at about 16 degrees if I'm not mistaken. However I do get a slight pinging so my buddy says when he rides with me. I never hear it. Most Cobra guys from what I hear usually run about 16.

From what I've seen, most Cobras run between 12-14 degrees while GT users are able to run between 14-16 degrees.

If you buddy says he here's pinging I suggest you drop it down at least a degree. Detonation is harmful to your engine at high-rpm, even when naturally aspirated.

How much HP & TQ will a timing adjustment be good for on a stock 96-98 Cobra?
