Cobra vs. Mark VIII Motor
To anyone,
I am looking into getting a new car in the very near future and was curious about the differences between a 97-98 Cobra DOHC motor and the DOHC motor used in the Lincoln Mark VIII of the same years. I know there is a lot of differences in the cars themselves, but what about the motors? Is it simply a cam difference or are the heads themselves entirely different? Is there any difference in the blocks (i.e. aluminum vs. cast iron)? I am very interested in perhaps getting the Lincoln, but would like to know if swapping over Cobra engine parts for more power is a good idea. If not, then I would probably choose the Cobra. Any information would be appreciated. |

umm from what i know...i know for sure the intakes are different... the cobras flow better... (DUH) but other than that i think there is different cams....

Cobra vs Mark VIII
differences are
1. intake - mark VIII feeds from the rear of the intake (TB mounted at rear) and is designed to offer good low end and midrange power. Cobra offers more flow for more high rpm power by using TB mounted to an open plenum cover, which mates to a lower intake that features runners that are open at one end and mate to the intake port on the cylinder head at the other end. 2.valvetrain - mark VIII cams offer slightly higher lift, but less duration and are timed differently than the Cobra cams. 3.crankshaft - the Cobra features a forged steel crankshaft with an 8 bolt pattern for the flywheel. The Mark VIII features a lightened cast crank with a 6 bolt pattern for the flywheel (similar to the GT) 4.exhaust manifolds - Cobra pieces are slightly better, allowing the spent gassess to escape a little easier. 5.oil pan/ windage tray - Cobra pieces are designed to offer better lubrication The block, rods, pistons, cylinder heads are for all intensive purposes the same. |
