Break-in period

Hi everyone,

Just got a Red 03 Cobra and already have a question. THe dealer told me that I will cause untold damage to my engine if I rev above 3000 RPMs durning the 1st 1000 miles.

I have not been able to find anything to back this statement up in print. Is he right, or just pulling my leg???????

Charlie

You will get many opinions about break-in's. I typically follow the recommendation in the Porche manuals. Keep it under 4k RPM's for the first 500 miles, 5k for the next 500 miles, then change the oil and let it rip. Oh yeah, never use the cruise during those first 1000 miles.

Don't believe the guys at the dealership. Every car & truck I've ever owned I've broken in like I drive 'em -- HARD! There's no reason to PU$$Y-FOOT your car. Just drive it and enjoy...

Why can't you use the cruise control? I just bought mine in Ohio about a week and a half ago and I use the cruise all the way back to California for the 2600 mile trip. Just curious,Mike

The theory is to vary the rpm's so everything will break in properly. Like I said, it's just a theory. I hope you enjoyed your trip?

yeah i did, the car is great. Mostly through nebraska and wyoming I had the cruise set for 105mph (3000RPM), but through all the other states it varied.

That would make the drive a little faster!
I take it that you have a radar detector installed?

The ford manual states not to keep the car at a constant RPM for a long period of time for the first 1000 mi. The manual does not state to keep it under any certain RPM for such an such a time.

I don't think Ford built this car to be pampered....at least not with this customer anyway

but hey I think everyone should break it in the way they feel comfortable with.

Dave

Light em up ooops I just voided my warrenty
