Banana Crash Video

I have finally got the banana crash video on the computer. There is not much detail in the video AT ALL, but it just gives a better view of exactly where it happened.

The coolest part of the video is watching the guy driving the porsche look back to see what was happening. All those cars in the front saw it happen and immediately slowed down in response to the crash.

That's wild Tom. That was a very abrupt left turn. I didn't realize you were that far through the turn.

That video is a little misleading as to where the spin started. It looks like it started coming out of the turn, but it actually started towards the end of the turn. It also shows that the car didn't go off track like some people were wondering.

Yeah man! Stopped pretty quick too.

I'm going to post the longer version of that video on Planet Mustang later tonight when I get back from Road Atlanta. It shows a little more of the speeds that we were running.

Awful hard to see anything with any detail as you said, but did you run over the inside rumble strips and that caused your rear end to step out, or am all all wet on what really happend?

No, I was right on line when it stepped out. I tried shifting while in the turn and it didn't go into gear. The combination of an off-camber turn, 100+ mph and weight shifting forward caused the rear to spin around.

It actually happened well past the apex and just a little before exit.

In hindsight, which is always really good, I should not have shifted in the turn. I had been shifting there all day, but on this lap I was probably about 5 mph faster in that turn. I was afraid of hitting the rev limiter in the turn, so I went ahead and shifted. What I should have done, and will in the future, is shifted coming down the hill before the turn. It would have meant a slower exit speed, but it would also have meant a straight car that would make it to turn 1.
