Question Racing harness

OK guys the new guy to open tracking needs help here. I have my rollbar in the vert and now I want harnesses for the driver and passenger. I may get arm restraints also. You have got my attention John with the rollbar thread!!!! I am sticking with the stock seats for now.$$$???

Any who I am open for recommendations on 5-point vs. 6-point, best way to anchor, what brand, type of latch, and what is this pull-up vs. pull-down thing??

Thanks

OK I looked through all the linked threads and it looks like a Simpson harness is in my future. I stilll have not figured out how to mount for a stock seat. I do not see how a 5-point will work with stock seats. On stock seats with a 6-point how should I route the crotch straps? Under my legs, over the side of the seat and down? Should they go forward to the front or toward the rear? This stuff is driving me crazy but I do love the open track stuff after going to Gingerman. But I do not believe in taking risk when a little investment can address the problem.

Thanks

You can get mounting hardware with your harness so that you can use them with your stock seats. You replace the stock seat belt bolts with eye bolts and then clip your harness in. For the sub belt you drill a hole in the center (underneath) of your seating position and then put another eye bolt in for the sub belts to clip into. The more seasoned experts can guide you further...but that's pretty much it.

Right front inside pad was GONE and I do mean gone. When I pulled it off it looked like the pad had seperated from the backing and just left the metal. No sign of pad material at all!!!

Hey did you get my message?

Must have been a glitch in the operator machine interface. What I wrote was that I have been considering the MAC cat-back which I believe you have? I have seen some concerns with that system related to rusting inside. Have you seen any evidence of that problem? Also how much louder over stock is it?

By the way made some good passes at the 1/8 mile this past Sunday followed by a top down ride through the country. Got to love this weather! Oh yeah how deep is the snow up there??

I really like the way I've engineered my Simpson 5-point camlock harnesses with stock seats, still can use original belts for street use.

See http://www.svtcobraclub.com/members/stanfield.htm

The shoulder belts attach to the horizontal (removable) part of my roll bar, behind my shoulders. Inside part of the lap belt attached to the same bolt as the stock seat belt. Outside part of lap belty attaches to roll bar vertical piece beside my hip. Submarine belt (the 5th part) attached to bolt through the floor and a plate below.

yes I do have the MAC 3" cat-back (sorry for being off topic) and I love it! I have had no problems with it what-so-ever, and I bought it used with 6k on it. The fit and finish are perfect, inside and out (as far as I can see anyway). After I wash it it does get a rustly residue on the inside of the tail pipes, but it wipes right out as long as I catch it while it's still wet. as for loudness.... I would honestly say it is twice as loud as it was stock, and the 01's weren't quiet to begin with when compaired to the stock 03's, 99's, 98's that I've heard. If I was going to do it again, I would definately go with the 3" MAC cat-back a second time!

Don pretty much described how I did them in my car with stock seats. I used the eye bolts in the stock locations on the stock belts for the harness lap belts. The only thing I did different was for the sub belt. I used a piece of angle iron and made cut it to fit under the two front feet of the stock seat and then bolted the sub belt to it.

A perfect setup means you run the sub thru the seat and then mount it nearly behind you on the floor, kind of like it you drew a straight line down your back to a spot on the floor.

One thing to make sure of....... you do not want the belts coming off of the mounting brackets at a 90 degree angle. It need to come straight off.

The only thing really wrong with using the stock points for the lap belts is the mount on the tranny tunnel is farther forward than the mount on the outside of the car. This can create a twisting effect if you hit something hard enough.

I don't know about all years, but my 01 has the inner lap belt attached to the seat itself. right where the seat bolts to the mounting bracket. just FYI

Hmm, I didn't know that. I wonder what year it changed? Can you still put an eye-bolt into the seat?

Ford uses a shouldered bolt to hold the seat belt in, so I would imagine you could use an eye bolt. I'm not sure when they changed, but I was very surprised when I found it this way whan changing to my racing seats.
