Bassani Header/X-Pipe/Exhaust Set-up? (03 Cobra)
Does anyone have any experience with the Bassani Header/X-Pipe/Exhaust set-up? I'll be ordering a new exhaust this week, but I'm still having a hard time finding reviews from people with actual experience with the product.
From what I've gathered, most people are going with the Magnaflow set-up. Is there any significant difference between the two both increased power or sound wise? I'm not interested in a raspy annoying exhaust. I'd love to get something fairly quiet and clean sounding. Thanks in advance for the replies guys! |

Most people go with Magnaflow because of the $. It is alot cheaper then the Bassani. Bassani's stuff is top notch but of course you pay for it. If you plan on doing headers you would be safe with Bassani, if not save some money and go with Magnaflow. My wife's T/A has the magnaflow catback and I was very impressed with fit, finish, and sound.

Well I went ahead and ordered the Bassani exhaust with catless X-pipe. I hope to get a baseline dyno done on Saturday and install the exhaust system later that evening.
Once I get the before and after dyno results, I'll post the results. |

Good news and bad news.
Good news: I got my Bassani Catback and X-Pipe. Bad news: I'm too impatient to wait until Saturday. The catback is on. ![]() Overall, I'm impressed with the catback. The sound is barely louder than stock at idle, but much louder at WOT. It doesn't get to the point where it's obnoxiously loud, but it definately will attract attention. If I had to describe the sound in a word, I would say "clean." There's no doubt in my mind that the X-Pipe will definately increase the volume, but I hope not to the point where it gets overwhelming. I'll definately take advantage of the cats until I get an itch to remove them. The X-Pipe should hopefully be on the car tomorrow and, time permitting, I'll have dyno numbers to accompany them. I'll keep this thread updated. |

Just wait to you stick that xpipe on! I was running a borla cat-back with the stock h-pipe for quite some time.
well, I finally installed a bassani x-pipe. what a difference. You can definitely feel a bump in performance and the car simply sounds amazing.

sorry forgot to comment on the headers. several people i have spoken with have had seal problems with the bassani mid-length headers. i decided to go with JDA shorties however was very unimpressed with the quality when they arrived and decided to return them. imho, those $ are probably better spent elsewhere (alla Kenne Belle).

More on "seal problems" please
Yellow03,
I am considering a complete Bassani system for the '03 and this is the first I have heard about seal problems. Do you have additional information, or links to threads discussing this? I would really appreciate the help - this is not a cheap ticket that I am looking at. If there are issues with the setup, I would like to know going in what to expect, or what questions to ask Bassani. Thanks in advance for any help. Jerry

Jerry,
I don't have anything in writing about seal problems. My local performance shop said they had seal problems on 2 other 03 Cobras running bassani headers. Perhaps the problem was more a function of the installer than anything else. Sorry if I made it seem like a widespread problem. I'll look to see if i see any threads on the topic and will post.

Dyno'd today.
Better late than never.
I got the beast dyno'd today. Current mods are: Bassani catted X-pipe, Bassani catback, K&N filter, C&L 95mm MAF. SAE Numbers are as followed - 407.2 Horsepower and 389.8 Torque. I told myself I wasn't going to touch the pulleys, but I'm getting tempted. ...then again, I also told myself I was going to leave the car stock and that didn't even last two weeks. ![]() |

I would be interested to see the numbers without the C&L maf, I have a hard time believing that you gained anything from it.
Next up should be a predator tune...

bassani
I have the full bassani exhaust and they put the 4" tips on it. The noise drove me nuts on the highway unless I was doing nearly triple digits . I must not have been the only one with this complaint because they came out with 3" tips that I am running without the baffles. I can almost have a normal conversation now with no appreciable loss of rwhp.

Update.
I recently yanked the cats and replaced them with the straight pipes that came with my Bassani X-Pipe. Unless you want to annoy people, I highly suggest keeping the cats in. The exhaust became incredibly loud under WOT to the point where I was almost embarassed.
As far as gains go, I couldn't really tell since most of my attention was focused on how insanely loud the set-up had become. Needless to say, I put the cats back on the next morning. |

Chris,
I want mine obnoxiously loud like your was! No way I am going to worry about that. I'm just going to listen to the sound of that DOHC V-8. ![]() BTW, your membership packet has been my mailbox for 2 days. We just got 17 inches of snow dumped on us. ![]() |
