original messages:

Hope I'm not intruding... I followed your link regarding the light bar.

I graduated from Maine West High School- small world. I'm in Des Plaines 'enjoying' the snow since our flight back to NC was cancelled. And I thought I would miss having a white Christmas.

OK, here's my "war story," 'Can't remember the name of the FORD dealer in Des Plaines, but he was big and I bet they're still there. In 1969 my dad bought a leftover (demo) '68 GT 500 (Shelby). Performance red...'came stock with a full roll cage/shoulder harnesses. I was 17 and the way I drove it these safety items were necessary. It was the most beautiful (and fastest) car we ever owned and it was stolen a year after we bought it. 'Probably the motivation for purchasing the COBRA I have now (yes, performance red). Some sort of Freudian wish fulfillment or whatever.

Hey, wasn't that Gasey guy from Des Plaines?

Happy motoring,

Tamose

Oops, looks like I missed a question...Taft was "right off" the Kennedy Expressway. I can't remember the cross street it was on but the covered wagons used to park in front of it (ha-ha).

We lived by Cumberland and the Kennedy Expressway.: [/B][/QUOTE]

here are the qnswers to your questions guys!

whoops,
hey Tamose --
looks like my husband won the bet as to where Taft was ---
I thought it was in Streamwood --- but that was Tefht ---

and yes --

DES PLAINES was the GASEY disaster...

Performance Red 69 GT 500? awesome !!! boy, I bet you wished you could get your hands on the guy that stole that one...

That was ugly. I remember there was a seat in a classroom that nobody sat in because it was used by a guy who was killed. Remember Steve Dahl's 'another kid in the crawl'? I could never listen to Dahl after that.

I live in North Carolina now but visit family at least twice a year in the Chicago area. I'd love to participate in an event sometime. Any plans for July? Were any of the Chicago group at the Ford 100th? Waterford Hills (a SVTOA OT event) was my first track event- AWESOME! I've also heard good things about the Gingerman event in the fall.

Do you teach in the public schools in NC?

I taught a year of high school chemistry in the greater Chicago area (Thornton High School on the south side) before retreating/hiding in graduate school
