Cai????

I'm pretty new to the engine modification scene and I need some help. I can assure you guys that this will be the first of many post. I just bought a 97 Cobra a few months ago and I'm ready to upgrade. I plan on buying a cold air induction kit first. The problem is, I don't know which brand to buy. So I'd like to know what you guys have. I ask because I've noticed several different brands at different prices. Initially, I decided on a K&N but noticed that the BBK was double in price. So I ask, besides the price how much of a difference is there. Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the board and congrats on you 97 Cobra purchase...

you are right there is a big selection of CAI out there. The best would be to find someone who has taken the same route you are wanting to take and see which brand gives what gaines.

The two that I like are Densecharger and WMS. I tend to stay away from the MAC or BBK(a good show piece because its chrome), but others seems to have ok results with them.

As far as bang for the buck though, there are other modifications you can do that would help out more.

What exhaust are you running?

Any kit will do you fine, pick one you like. A cold air kit is going to be of marginal gains if any. Don't stress over that choice.

First mod you should do is gears....get some 4.30s in there and then the car will really come alive.

Also, for a small price, an off road H or X pipe will boost the ponies more than a cold air kit would, plus, it'll give the car a meaner sound.

I agree, very marginal.

BBK is the prettiest and probably most expensive, I'm getting that one only because it will match my future chrome Kenne Bell, and I want to retain that under-hood "bling" look.

If I had to choose the one that performs the best, I would go with the WMS.

I'd stay away from Mac, I've always thought their stuff was cheaply made. JMO.
