paint under hood?

I was wanting to know if everybody else has this black piece that says cobra on it on the back side of there hood. I was thinking about painting this darker black then filling in the cobra letter with a diffrent color paint or somethign to make it stand out. Would this count as a mod if i were to take it to shows? Also does this sound safe to everybody? what woudl you sugust as far as colors? (or those bumper decals you can get off e-bay might work) i have the weird chamelieion paint but everythign under my hood is blue (CAI and of course the cobra on top of the engine) so i was thinking blue. thanks

That black thing is a fiberglass insulator to protect the hood from engine heat. I would not paint it since it may hold moisture that way. However, you could paint the "Cobra" part. That sounds like a cool idea to me. I wonder if paint will stick to it. As far as painting the matt, it may look terrible if it starts to crack (the paint that is). Perhaps carpet dye may work to aid in darkening it. Has any body else painted it, and if so how did it turn out? For car shows, I do not think that would be classified as a mod, unless you are changing the actual hood to something else. Then again, I could be wrong on that one.

i have seen one person who has done it and it looked so so nice. I just want it to look a little bit darker black then fill in the cobra with a diffrent color. Make it stand out instead of so normal looking.

I did it on my Black '99 in white - looks really good. Tried to mask and spray but the tape didn't stick well to the insulation, ended up brushing it on. Just gloss white enamel! Not sure I would paint the whole insulated lining though.

Any hardware store, Walmart, etc. I have seen folks uses the small bottles of Testors Model Paints too (dries fast).

I painted the hoodliner on my 97 and I get alot of compliments for it. Just make sure you take your time, I've seen some people try and rush it and it just looks like crap.

My car is black, so A nice silver color would look good in the letters. Makes me wonder if a fiberglass gell coat would work if used first. Actually, some sticky tape and an air brush would work best. I would not use spray cans since they have a tendency to drip and cause alot of overspray.

what do you think would be the best color to do mine? Considering the color of my car changes from green to black to purple to red acording on the light. a lot of peopel have said red but i was thinking blue since the cobra on the engine is blue and my CAI has blue in some spots.

. If not chameleon, then I would go with the blue cause too many colors would look tacky.

they have chameleon paint that i could use under the hood. All that i want is somethign that looks nice (not tacky or riced out) that will not chip from the heat under the hood. thanks for all of the input.

you could alway prime the letters in silver and then paint over that in a candy blue color or some sort of transparent blue. At least the motor is silver. Since the matt is black, dark colors may not show well unless you could provide a smooth surface for the paint. What would be nice is to mount stainless steel inserts within the letter indents. I do not believe there are many adhesives that will stick to the material. However, if you removed the matt and worked on it off the car, you could do just about anything with it as long as you do not tear it when taking it off. Sounds like another product idea for those stainless steel insert people. Polished stainless steel inserts with metal hooks on the back or possibly threaded posts with brackets so that you can mount them on the liner when it is off the car. That to me would be my choice, at least stainless steel will not change color or get dull. Even some stainless steel flames too. Nah, better off to keep it simple. I even thought about getting a large LCD display to hang there under the hood, and mount a small color spy camera somewhere in the egine bay and display all of those looking at the motor bay on the screen. Of course that would have to be removed when you want to use the car. Since both the camera's and the LCD operate on 12V dc, there should be no problems provinding power. If you really tricked out your car with chrome suspension parts, you could also put in small remote cameras to show that off too. Sure you could provide a DVD movie. IF you had a video camera, you could easily make a DVD movie (that is if you have a DVD burner on your computer). That just happens to be another hobbie of mine. It is really cool what you can do with some video footage, and some background music and a good video editor. The first year I went to the shows, I only used the camera on a limited basis which did not yield much to play with. sooner or later I will be adding a DVD display so that I can put on display some of the video work I have done on the car shows. Just an idea, although not original since I have seen several rides showing movies at the shows. But not the car show itself

If your hood liner is looking bad, you may just want to replace it. Thats what I did. Not exspinsive. Ifn I remember correclty it was about $45.00.
