Roll Cage and Racing Seats

Has anyone installed a rollcage and racing seats in their 03 Cobra Coupe? If so, I would be interested in any information you could provide.
Such as:
1. Brands
2. Models
3. Installation difficulty
4. Satisfaction
5. Did you remove the rear seats?
6. 5 point harness systems?
7. Any other info that you deem important

What I am looking to do is have a rollcage, racing seats, and a 5 point harness system installed, so I am looking for any information that will assist myself in finding the right setup/solution.

That is done by outlaw racing in Houston. Real good quality compared to others I have seen.

Thanks, this is a start. I noticed they used the stock seats with the harness system. And the roll cage looks like it has the swing out door/side bars.
Hmmmmm, this is the stuff I am looking for.

Mine is a 99 Cobra Convertible, custom rollbar with removable horizontal behind front seats, removable door bars. Harnesses attached to horizontal roll bar, also to tabs on vertical bars at the door, also to the same bolts that hold the stock belts in place. This way I can run the racing harnesses when I want to, or use the stock belts for street use.

My back seat is still usable. 5-point Simpson harnesses, just refreshed due to dating requirements for NHRA and NASA.

I run Corbeau CR1's with Simpson 5-point harnesses although I use them as four point. The Corbeaus will show wear quickly. But, their customer service is awesome. I called to get an upper replacement cover under warranty which they offered without question. I inquired about buying a new lower and they gave it to me for free. Later this year I'm going to change mine out for either Cobra brand seats or Sparcos.

I'm in the process of a roll bar search right now. Maximum Motorsports sells several some of which are NHRA legal. I am looking for a MMRB-6 weld-in bar. You can go to their website. They have excellent install instructions with pics. On the weld in model, you install the back portion and bolt it together. Then you carefully remove it from the car to maintain alighment with your body, have the segments welded together and then re-install it. This method requires no welding in the car and it's NHRA legal. I also plan to install a rear seat delete along with the bar. The MM bar has swing out or bolt-in side bars so when you are using your Cobra for a daily driver you can remove these bars for easy entry.

I'm trying to find one on the east coast since MM is in CA and the bar must ship truck. Livermore Motorsports is a distributor for MM. I sent an email lat night but they have yet to reply. Need-4-Speed is also a dealer.

Hey thanks Silver03Snake. I appreciate your responses. I like the idea of a swing out or bolt-in bar for daily use. I have heard nothing but good things about Maximum Motorsports so I wouldn't hesitate about buying anything from them. I used them once for their full length subframe connectors and was very pleased. I see that seats can be rather spendy, but it's worth it for wear and tear, and comfort to go with a more costly seat. Not sure I worded that right, but I think you'll catch my drift (spend a little more to get a good quality seat.)

Livermore emailed me back. They are in N. CA. I always thought they were on the east coast. They said they would make a package deal on the bar with belts. You may want to talk to them. I used the link to their email on their website. Sorry, I forgot the web address.

VERY CLEAN CAGE INSTALLATION!!!! THE NICEST I"VE EVER SEEN!!

Notice rear seats still somewhat usable(if you duck)..... unless that bar comes out...... That would be SWEEEEET!!

The roll bar is from Mustangs Unlimited....had it chromed in Houston...Installed it myself.....1/2 day....some welding.....total cost....just over $1200.00

First and most important question - what will you be doing with the car ???street, club, or track ??
If you are doing track events (SCCA, NASA,NHRA) you will have to build your cage to conform with their rule book, the same goes for the seat and seat belts - they will need to have an FIA approval tag.
If it is only street or club events, there are several companies that do a "street cage". KB (www.kennybrown.com) does one with low side bars - that allow easy in-out. Also, street seat belts need a DOT tag to be legal.
- ALSO, be very careful with the mounting location and angles of the seat belt-shoulder belt system (read mounting instructions CAREFULLY) the incorrect mounting point or belt angle can hurt you.....

This would be used for non-competitive track events. I just want to give myself some extra protection should, heaven forbid, something go wrong. Like I crash!!
