Newbie Question?
I was wondering what does it mean to have a modular V8? I have never heard of this. Is this a name like Triton, Vortec, or Magnum?

My understanding of the modular V8 methodology arrived in the Ford plant roughly around 1994. If you remember, that was the last year (95') I believe of the 5.0 liter GT. The modular V8 is a motor that can be used in various configurations that benefit a serious cost savings to ford and then the customer. The same block/design, etc. is used in that 4.6 liter in the GT and the cobra as used in F series trucks, the crown vics, caravans etc.
Our cobra motor has a cast iron block however, it still uses the same technology on the bottom end (roughly speaking) as does the other 4.6 liter v8's ford is using.

Modular Motors do not have push rods as it is a direct cam to lifter configuration.
