Smile Stainless Works exhaust

I just purchased a new black 04 coupe. Only had it about 1 month. The first mod on my list was for a new exhaust - the stock exhaust is way too quiet!

I researched the various exhaust options (seems like millions). Bassani, Borla, Flowmaster, SLP, etc. My local speed shop recommended a system from Stainless Works, who I'd not heard of before.

I just had a complete Stainess Works 3" exhaust system installed: 1 5/8" primary long tube headers, random hi-flow cats, X pipe & cat back. The entire system, including the headers, is made from high quality 304 stainless. The system sounds great - it has a unique sound. The sound is probably more like a Borla or Corsa system, but also has a nice deep tone. Not too loud at idle or at cruise, but it really roars when you get on it, spits when you downshift, etc.

The best part is some really impressive (imo) power gains. This is the first mod I've made to the car (only had it about 1 mo). The 500 hp club is my goal. My stock dyno results were 346 ft-lbs & 354 HP at the wheels. Current results are 376 ft-lbs & 399 HP. That's a pickup of 30 ft-lbs & 45 HP peak. Probably more impressive is an average gain of 30 ft-lbs & 30 HP across the entire power band. The torque curve is much flatter now. The gains are most impressive at the upper end of the power curve. Whereas the stock system dropped off after 6000, the power curve is now pretty flat from 5900 - 6500. At 6200 I gained 52 ft-lbs & 61 HP & at 6500 65 ft-lbs & 80 HP!

I checked them out on line. $1400.00 bucks is pretty expensive.
