Letter to Bill Ford and Phil Martens of Ford Motor Company

I am posting a copy of the letter I mailed to Bill Ford, Ford CEO, and Phil Martens, VP of Product Creation, of Ford Motor Company so that many of you can get an idea of what you may want to put into your letters. I am strongly encouraging everyone who reads this to take a moment and write a letter. We need to flood Dearborn with snail mail and to have them understand that we want to keep the current SVT Team and we want the tradition of SVT vehicles to continue well in to the future. Please everyone, take a moment and write to them or we all may wish that we would have later on.

Dear Mr Martens:

I am writing to you on behalf of many of the members of the SVT Cobra Mustang Club (SCMC) to express our concern about the possibility of the SVT program being cancelled. Our club has over 480 members and is exclusive to SVT Mustang Cobra owners. Our members consider SVT vehicles to be the best "bang for the buck" offering owners performance, substance, exclusivity, and value.

It has been my personal experience that the SVT Mustang Cobra, SVT Lightning and SVT Focus are the standard by which many enthusiasts measure their Ford vehicles. I have personally owned over 12 different Mustangs during my 26 years of solely Mustang ownership, and nothing has compared to the SVT Mustang Cobra. My current vehicle list consists of a 1994 Indianapolis Pace Car, 1994 SVT Cobra Coupe, and a 2004 SVT Mystichrome Cobra Coupe.

Here are some reasons I feel the SVT division of Ford Motor Company should remain intact:

· Maintain a loyal customer base (As stated in autofieldguide.com by bringing out products that consumers want.)
· Maintain a performance image in the automotive market
· Prevention of erasing a part of the history that has brought the company to where it is today
· Increased sales of aftermarket parts at Ford racing
· It allows a small group of performance enthusiasts (John Coletti & Company) to research and develop more powerful and efficient engines

It would be a shame to see the 13 years that Ford has put in to this program end, and leave many of us performance enthusiasts without a new SVT Cobra to enjoy in the current 2005 Mustang body style (DEW platform). Many of us held off buying a 2004 model in anticipation of the new 2006-2007 model.

As Henry Ford once said, "Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success." We sincerely hope that Ford Motor Company will allow the SVT team of John Coletti, Tom Scarpello, & Company to continue their success in building performance vehicles that have provided our club members with both pride of ownership and years of enjoyment.

I can relate very strongly with the SVT club on this issue. As an owner of two 85.5 SVO's ( one was my first Mustang and my first ever new car ) I experienced the same dilema when they decided to end the SVO program. I'm not sure where Ford is going this time. At least they replaced the SVO program with SVT although it took them almost 7 years?
