Ported Eaton??

Ok, I've got an idea to go ahead port the Stock Eaton just to get an extra 35hp or more out of it! Plus I want to run the 2.80 pulley which will raise me to 14psi.
http://www.apten-us.com/vehicles/03cobra/
Apten does this for my stock Eaton for about $500! They also state that I won't get the full benefit of the 2.80 pulley cause the stock port doesn't allow that much air in, plus I'll benefit from the aftermarket intake and throttle body more if the blower accepts more air?
I'd rather do something like this rather than spend a few thousand on a supercharger upgrade! If I had the money I would, but I really don't need 600+ horsepower!!
What do you think?

Thanks for the link info. I will keep that in mind for future reference. I would opt for the polished/ported version. Not sure if that is worth an additional $500.00. If you get what they boast 100hp+, $500.00 is worth it. That is far less than the $3000.00 for the Ken Bell or WhippleCharger upgrade.

I have a friend that done the Kenne Bell, a programmer, air filter and fuel pump. That thing is wicked and im saving my money for the Kenne Bell. Big difference in his car and mine. My car has a pulley, Programmer and air filter. His feels like it has 100hp advantage. We are both running around 14psi. Plus if you are going up on the boost the Kenne Bell dont run out of boost like the factory eaton. Hope this helps

From what I see, the Kenne bell's aren't really running much better than the apten cars at the track. Heavily modded (solid axle, automatic) KB cars really do run well, but so does an apten eaton with a shot of juice.... (something to think about).

Jason, the more I think about it, the more I would just go with porting the eaton. When you think about it, what is $500 compared to the $3000-$4500 you will be spending on a new supercharger? Also, it is like we discussed this weekend, when you start getting into the 600+hp range, suspension mods are gonna become a necessity as well in addtion to a possible roll cage to stiffen up the car even more. I'm not sure how far you want to go but these are some things for you to think about. Also, remember that porting the eaton is gonna require a good tune and from what I have gathered on various boards it will not only give you some good hp but also void your warranty. Right now for me, my warranty is just too important. But to each his own.

David, Yeah I just have been thinking alot about how much money I'm going to put into the car and how much I'd actually be able to use that much horsepower! I only go to the track but a few times a year and I can't afford the tickets to use that kind of power on the street, so I'm just going to go with the ported eaton in a year or so! After I get all my other goodies! I'll end up taking it down next winter when it's in the garage and sending it off!
I've considered the polished Apten for the car show look, but I'll just have to see what's going on at that time!
Thanks for the info!
Jason

Cool, I think a polished one would look really nice. I need stop thinking about it before I decide to screw the warranty and get mine ported .

I have to agree with Josh here....I ported my blower in sept...best bang for the buck mod I have done. I gained 40+HP to the wheels. I'm now making 508rwhp 490rwtq.

So did you get yours ported by Apten? Or who did you use, and did you take it off and re-install it yourself?

I used these guys they do all of Apten porting. Great turn around time. yes I took it off and reinstalled it myself...with another pair of hands..

www.stiegemeier.com

I went 11.9 @ 123.8mph with a failing clutch on F1's....my best mph was 118mph prior to the port job....with a new clutch and DR's I'm thinking 11.40's anyway. The car rips now!

It's a'll relative. A good intercooler will make a huge difference. If your detonating, this will make a difference. If you cant afford the 500+ for the intercooler, A Snow meth injector will help for half the bux. A good intercooler makes the difference, just double the money. A good intercooler makes the difference, toss a Snowie on it, hey, your there depending on your setup up to 1000 horse. Says a lot for a 281 ci MOD motor without headwork, cams Jesus, I love these lower ends in the 2003 - 2004 281's. They just LOVE 25 = 30 pounds of boost without the Spray.
