Just made a friend sick!!!

I have a friend with a 95 Cobra R and he wanted a ride in my 03. Dont get me wrong his car is very nice (love to have one but cant afford both). After riding in my car he has not said anything about racing anymore. Last thing he said, he was going to sell his 01 Cobra and look for a 03 or 04. These new Cobras are

I did the same thing, but I let my friend drive it. It seems faster when somebody else is behind the wheel. It took me a while to pry his hands off the steering wheel since the ride was more than he expected. For some strange reason or another, I was not all that enthusiastic when I test drove it (I usually drive differently when I have passengers, i,e, sales person) Now, since I have broken it in, I would never go back to the NA 01 SVT. His mustang is an 89 LX with a little help under the hood. I think he liked the 04 and not just because it was new either. On the other hand, my dad will not even go near it. My mom on the other hand is begging me for another ride.

yea ive got a friend hoo has a 71 camaro thats a work in progress that he thinks is fast.I gave him a ride in my 04 and i dont think that camaro is very fast anymore

.I also gave him a good scare with the awsome acceleration.guess he wasnt expecting that kind of acceleration from a mustang(he's a chevy guy)

I normally do not let others drive my vehicles. There are two exceptions though. I have two long time friends who I trust in their driving skills and as freinds in general. Both of which are or were mustang owners. Back in the day we had our own small Escort GT club. We used to drive just for the sake of driving. I was the last of the three to jump on the Mustang (things sort of kept me away from enjoying life until I got divorced). I also have many other friends who I would not even let drive my Explorer. I have even had my ex-sister-in-law ask me to teach her how to drive stick. I said sure, let me know when you have bought a cheap slow car and I will teach you. The Cobra is not a good car to learn how to drive stick since you would probably wind up in a ditch or around a utility pole.

I had a similar experience with my brother in law,

he had a previous gen cobra vert we swapped cars for a day his clutch felt like I was driving a toyota tercel. He sold his a month later and bought a supercharged jag sedan (still a fomoco product but more like a bmw 5 series with british build quality issues) I guess he lost his mind after driving my 5oo hp beast.

The 03/04 as well as the 99/01 may suffer from wheel hop at times, however, with the traction control turned off and making a turn from a stop can be a disaster in the hands of an inexperienced driver. When I first had my 01, I made sure I knew what would happen under just about every driving condition only so I would not find something cool by accident. I have pushed the 01 to its limits on purpose to learn the characteristics of the vehicle. I could have started off with dougnuts just for fun. Making left hand turns into traffic can be a fun experience if you know what to expect. If you find yourself in a powerslide do not just let off the gass too fast or you will go in the direction of the counter steer and wind up sliding in the other direction. The worst thing you could do is end up in the on comming lane of traffic. If I ever let another person drive my car, it is mandatory that the traction control remains on. I have read about other's misforturnes with their cobras winding up in a ditch, pole, over the side walk and worse because the vehicle did something unexpected and they lost control of the rear end and pannicked. Think of the loss of control (wheel spin) as you would when driving in the snow. LOOK WHERE YOU WANT TO GO AND NOT WHERE YOU ARE GOING seems to be the rule of thumb. Perhaps practice doughnuts in an empty parking lot would help one understand the throttle response just to learn what to expect when you let off the gass too fast or just enough to correct the slide and regain traction. I can agree with many in this thread not to let anybody drive your car. I can easily say that I have gained a good amount of snow driving experience which has helped me from wrecking the 01 Cobra on dry pavement. I am one of those freaks that loves to drive in the snow only as long as my 4x4 is still running.

I know what you mean about cobras and going around corners.Abut 3 weeks ago I picked my cobra up from the dealer for maintence stuff.I drive a big slow truck all day so the cobra is alot different.about a block up from the dealer im turning onto a road.It was a big intersection (but not alot of traffic at the time).wow I didnt know I could slide around that corner so fast.now im more careful around busy corners but it was a load of fun flyin around the corner like that(it wouldnt of been if there wer alot of other cars).I didnt lose control I guess because I have been driving many years.or maybe I was lucky.but ive had my fair share of cars losing control and having to avoid others.(long time ago I had a mustang and the tire came off while on the highway

).but should i find another empty intersection or corner I might have to try that again

I whole heartedly agree that it is good to play around under "safe" conditions to find out what your car does in different situations. I have always taken advantage of what little snow we get here and love it. I have found that Autocrossing is a great way to do this too.

I have found myself sliding many times and alway at the same intersection since I travel that road every day on my way to work. It may be fun, but it is also not fun due to what may happen (accident or worse). I would definately recomend practicing emergency manuvers in a vacant parking lot that has plenty of room (lacking light poles). Start from a stop and make a hard right or left under acceleration 1st gear only. The point would be to correct the spin and maintain a straight line of travel. One should be able to develop a technique in which you can correct the spin and oversteer at the same time so when in traffic you do not hit anything. I would not reccomend just doing dougnuts since that will not teach you anything except that your car can smoke up the tires. Besides that, if the security or police come to see what is a matter, you can tell them that you are trying to learn how to avoid an accident in the event if you loose control. Keep your speeds low and do not attempt to get into a spin at speed since that would be unpredictable or you may roll your vehicle if you hit a bad spot in the lot. Probably the only legal way to do it is to enrol in a driving school that will let you take the car to the limits. I have had my share of mis-haps back in my youth where I wound up in someone's front yard or in a field due to taking a turn to fast and finding out that my lack of driving skill was enought to get me killed had I not leaned how to correct the error after you made it. Blame it on snow driving (not recomended for Cobras though, unless you have snows on all fours).

Hey, my x-wife went to the dealership and drove my car before I was able to get it purchased! And the best part.....she got a speeding and no seat belt ticket! What revenge.

That will teach her to mess with the COBRA!
