COG pulley system

well im sure i'll get mixed results here as well...but ordered my pulley system last week and decided to go with the Cog setup...I know its been debated on other forums, but there just wasnt enough evidence that its harder on the blower than the other setups...so I forked over the extra $$$ and went with a different setup will let you guys know if im pleased or not

I too am not sure on the strees it will cause but that is not my main problem it is that I don't trust the vendor that sells them...I have heard way to many bad reports about them..

Good luck and let us know what happens!!

so far, i havent had any issues except the quality of my MAC straight shot was horrible and ive since sent it back (literally 30minutes after I received it) and was hoping for a refund. All of my items have been shipped w/in a day and been to my house in 4 days...we'll see how they respond to this...I also spoke with a guy who was the sytem and hasnt had any issues with a little over 2000 miles on them...who knows, probably a waste of money b/c i'll be swapping out the blower next year, but maybe not...

Love my straight shot CAI. Have zero complaints here. As far as the cog setup, like you've said, there are a lot of people complaining about them. I'm with them though. I'm more concerned about the 1 keyway on the crankshaft. I don't see how it would harm the blower, but I know it can rip the single key off the crankshaft. That would be bad. But, haven't seen it happen on a terminator yet, but I don't know too many people that run that setup.

i dont know either...just hoping that it doesnt happen to me i guess...it just seems odd that most of these motors are holding 500+rwhp on the other pulley systems, why is this one THAT much different? Oh well, only time will tell

I don't think it's a matter of how much power people are getting, it's from the dramatic reduction in rpm when you bang gears. A 2.8 pulley with aux idler for example will allow slight slippage to relieve the tension on the crankshaft key on a powershift, where as a cog drive will not. It may hold up fine, but it may not. Like I said, i haven't seen a failure on an '03 cobra yet. I do know that sean hyland machines an extra groove in the crankshafts that's will be used with cog driven blowers, and add another key for durability.

So are you going to run the 14psi or the 17psi set-up for the cog belt system?

to be honest with you...im not sure which one came with the setup...I would hope as much as I paid for it, that both came, but im really not sure...I guess if both came, then I'll try out both, then see which one is more "stable"...obviously I would want the one that makes the most power on there, but if it's gonna mess the integrity of the motor, then i'll probably opt for the less power

In my opinion I'd run the 14 boost set-up for a while, so that you can see how it holds up. The 17+ boost is a little much for the "roots" type blower to handle I believe!

I can agree with smashedheadcat about the tensioner allowing for relief on the rotating assembly. If you exceed the shear strenght of the key it will snap and possibly damage the crank shaft. Makes me wonder if SH uses a different hardness in the key they use. I have seen keys break on other things and the result can be nasty to the pully or shaft if the wrong materials are used. However, the cog set up looks cool, I hope it works out for you. I was almost thinking of getting the same thing for mine.

One issue with a cogged belt is the noise it's going to make. It will probably be the loudest thing on your car.

In the SHM book it didn't say anything about a stronger key, just showed how they machine another grove, and add another key. Good question.
