Helmet?

I was just wondering what kind of helmet I needed for the dragracing and autocross (when I get to that point) is that I'll need to get? What are the requirements for these?

I like this one from our vendor, but I'm not going to get one unless it'll pass all the requirements and I don't want to spend a butt load on a helmet.

SA2000 is what you need to look for (M2000 is for Bikes).. although I guess SA2005 is due out soon (I believe they release a new standard every 5 years...)

Any good quality SA2000 helmet is accepted by all automotive sanctioning bodies. As Firme said, SA2000 the newest. Not sure when SA2005 is coming.
I also would not run anything without a chin bar (ie. Full Face). seen too many chin, nose, jaw and teeth broken or lost in an accident with an open face.

The most important thing is fit. It needs to be snug, not tight or loose.

Try on lot's of helmets, some fit round heads better, some fit oval heads better.

I use Simpsons because they fit my head. For motorcycles, I use Shoe, again, because they fit and are comfortable for me.

So if I get the SA2000 helmet it will only be good until the new SA2005 helmets come out?

They typically go back 2. So they would be good until the SA2010 comes out.

is there a size guide out there somewhere? because most places that sells helmets are no where close to me so I would have to order one and have it shipped and I would hate to get one that is to big/small. also if I went to a motorcycle dealership and tried on a cycle helmet would the size cross over to a auto helmet?

The websites I have looked at helmets on have had size charts/guides based on the measurement in inches that you take around your head and they convert it to helmet size. Also, most sites have a different chart for each brand so a medium made by one company may not be the same size as a medium made by someone else.
