O/R h pipe, help or hurt?

just making a list of things to get and I forget where I read it the other day but some guy was claiming a o/r pipe hurt his numbers on his 03/04 cobra. I have always had o/r h pipes on all my stangs because i always knew they helped and plus I love the sound but I have never had a blown one until now. so I just need to know if it will hurt or not to have one put on.
