Track Questions
hey,
just bought my first cobra, an 03 sonic blue convertible. I have a couple of questions about racing. first, what were some stock quarter-mile times. second, what were some stock hp dynos? third, when racing, how do you launch your car? Thanks for the responses in advance -Shawn |

For you questions, Never ran my car in the 1/4 mile stock, but depending on experience I would imagine low 13's. My stock HP was 362.71rwhp and 358.1 rwtq Since the Cobra has the IRS (Independent Rear Suspension) I wouldn't launch it too hard, usually keep it around 2500rpm to be safe! Also, it's a good idea to bring drag radials to help with the wheel-hop the IRS cars are known for. To help this you can replace the stock rubber bushings with urethane or delrin bushings and these can be found at www.maximummotorsports.com They will have everything you need for any suspension set-up you want! Hope this info will help! When you get a chance check out our front page and look at some of our up coming events. You will enjoy every bit of time spent with the rest of the club! -Jason

Welcome to the board.... I went 12.5 @ 112mph stock...you could get a high 12 out of the vert with a little practice no problem. My dyno#s stock were 374rwhp 360rwtq Before you spend a dime on rear suspension mods...spend a little seat time with your car learning it. I have 500+rwhp now an have gone as fast as 11.96 @ 123.7mph with a 1.8 60' on the stock F1's without hopping it down the track on the stock IRS. Your technique is whats going to help you. First off air down your F1's do NOT go lower than 20psi....you do not want to lose a bead at 100mph. I would start at 25psi and see how that works for you. Second drive around the water and you just have to give the tires a quick spin to clean them off, there is no need to heat up your radials. I launch at 3000rpm's on F1's but I suggest you start lower to get a feel for the car maybe 2000rpm's....I slip the clutch out in 1st then depending on track conditions will I powershift 2nd,3rd an 4th. but you can pull some good times without none the less. If the car starts to hop get off the gas till it settles down....hopping will lead to damage. Drag radials will reduce hop as well you might look into those in the future...most of all have fun Dave
