Predator tuners, at wits end!!!

So I have 03 SVT,
2.80 pulley
accufab single blade
95MM meter.

no matter what I do I cannot get the high RPM knocking to stop.
You guys with similar stuff, with the predator set at its "PULLEY TUNE"
have you had to add fuel beyond its pulley tune setting?

Have you had to take out some advance?
I just cant seem to figure out why it still knocks? Iv tried as much as plus 4.5% more fuel, Iv tried removing 4% spark advance, it still does it. I have been wondering if its this 95MM metter,

For the most part, what have you guys had to do?
thanks Dave B.

Dave, the only advice I can give you is to call a reputable tuner like Amazon; Strictly Performance or ....

I have a 2.93 and my buddy has 2.8 and we never had a problem but we had Strictly tune ours. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

do either of you have either an accufab throttle body or a 95MM mass air metter?

I personaly would like thank those of you in advance who would recomend I seek out a good tuner, please understand that I know this option is open to me however thats not why I have asked you good people for information,

I am trying to gain a cross section of other car owners with similar after market equipment, that had to make pedator tuning changes above and beyond what the pedators "PULLEY TUNE" has all ready made to the computer.

I would start by changing back to the stock meter....

and read this thread

http://www.svtcobraclub.com/forums/s...ead.php?t=9165

read my last post...custom tune is the way to go IMO...either RWTD,amazon, strickly etc.etc...

Look im going to be honest with you about my feelings on dyno tuning,
a few years back I had a sport bike, very tricked out, I was told Dyno tuning was the way to go so I took it to the first Dyno guys and the very first thing they did was to blow it up, burned a piston, they did not except any responsibility for it, I was just SOL.

so $5000 later, I get it fixed, new heads, pistons, degreed cams, the works, tried and tried to make the dam thing run right and it just kept comming down to the fact it needed to be dyno tuned, so there was no way I was going to take it back to the first idiots, so I asked around and was recomended by a few people to another shop,

Guess what???? they not only blew it up also but I found out later they did 64 dyno runs one after another after another after another, they then called me and told me to come pick my bike up and get it out of there shop as it was going to be in there way for the next day....no apologies what so ever.

I do not race the car, I never wanted to end up in an unreliable situation with it, I just wanted the tune that was supposed to work with that pulley arraingment to work, I am not going to squeeze every once of HP out of it, I just want it to work with the pulley set up I was told it was for. so its either the accufab, or its the 95MM meter, I was hoping one of you guys could have enlightened me,

Hmmmm....ok........good luck!

I would tell you to go over to SVTPerformance.com or Modularfords.com and post the question, but they will most likely give you the same responce I did.

Dave

The best solution would be to back track a bit. What sits in front of the MAF? It could just be a matter of clocking the MAF unit by 90 degrees. I would start off with the stock components and keep the pully. If it pings with that set up, perhaps you can down load another tune from predator. You may need to get a different tune from the predator web site that will recalibrate the A/F curve for the 95mm MAF meter diameter. If you have this already, I would give the predator/diablo people a call and they may have a fix for the components you are using. The other issue could be entirely different. It may not be the program at all or the parts that were installed. Keep in mind that roots blowers tend to heat up the air charge when more boost is added. Most recommend replacing the heat exchanger with a larger unit to compensate for the added boost temperatures. You may also need different or colder plugs to reduce pre-ignition. I would recommend either Denso or NGK Irridiums to start, then possibly an MSD ignition booster to get a longer spark duration. Both of which would eliminate any flameout conditions. But if you are pinging, it may be the air charge temp that is effecting performance. Accufab and other manufacturers of radiators and such have really good heat exchanger units for our applications. The Ford heat exchanger is only good for the stock mill which gives a limitation on how much boost can be added. A more effective heat exhanger could not hurt performance even if that is not the cause. I am considering upgrading that part of my Cobra which is still in stock form when it comes to the boost, pully and program part of it.

From what I have heard..your issue probably but, not for certain lies within the accufab and/or the MAF you have installed. What 95mm MAF do you have on the car? Also...you can get a dyno tune..which is highly recommended and/or get one of the tuners mentioned Amazon/RWTD to assist you. It may cost you but, they know what thier doing....and that's what you need. I have never heard of either of the tuners mentioned blowing up a car..and trust me....I worry about that stuff too. Keep us updated as to what happens!

Davesnake has given you great advice more than once in this thread, but you don't seem to want to listen.

FORGET WORKING WITH THE PREDATOR "CANNED" TUNE.

Get RWTD to make a custom tune for your mods. You don't need the TB or the 95mm MAF at your mod level, but I'm sure James can build you a tune for them if you're determined to keep them (I personally think the 95MM MAF is causing most of your problem). Cutting timing using the Predator "user functions" only affects a certain load %. You need a custom tune to tweak the ENTIRE timing curve at various loads.

Get yourself a good tune before you blow your car up. Another option is to look on Modular Fords for fast cars in your area (I think I saw you were in FL) and find out who they trust to tune in the area and get a complete dyno tune.

You might also want to put in some colder (NGK TR6) plugs since you have a 2.8 pulley. I don't recall seeing that in your list of mods.

I have a Predator and already traveled this path. Take it for what it's worth.

My $0.02.

Thanks everyone,
I got hold of Bryan at Diablo today and have made arraingments to get him to write a tune for the hardware I have on the car,

Now get the fun job of trying to figure out how to upload the copy of my current tune to my laptop so I can E-mail it to Bryan,

Anyone preform this fun looking task yet? any suggestions?
