Talladega Gran Prix -- October 29, 2005

We are slated to have the track for one day, Saturday, at Little Talladega on October 29, 2005. This is a tentative date because they will be repaving the track and they are not sure when they will start. We will advertise the event on the SCMC website but we have no control over their track upgrade date so if it cancels then it just cancels. If they decide to start before November, then we will schedule a date at the first opportunity for 2006. We could get any summer date but I'm not sure it is wise to run in AL in the summer heat. Don't think many of the supercharged cars will like it. We are going to limit this event to 50 people. That's right, 50 people. 5 groups of ten and that's it. If we see that most everyone wants a full weekend then we may look into doing that once the event in confirmed 100% in September. Cost will be $100.00 per day for members, non members who have never run with us at any event before will be $125.00. This is supposed to be taking the place of the 411 speedway. I just wish the date was a little later. I want to go but I'm waiting until the 05 rated helmets come out to get one and I don't think they will be out it time.

Allan,

You can still use the current SA95 helmet for this event and then get the new helmet for next year at the end of the year.

Unfortunately I don't have a helmet. The problem is I don't want to buy one now with the new ones about to come out. I wish they didn't wait until the end of the year to release the new ones.

You guys will enjoy TGP. The track is a lot more technical than the ariel shot shows. Be sure your brake pads are up to snuff, and watch your tires. The track can be run clockwise or counterclockwise. Last time I was down there, the group ran CW for the morning, and CCW afternoon (or visa verca, you get the picture).

I have some in car from a couple of sessions there, in DVD format, that if I can get the disc to someone that can rip it to .mpeg files, they could be hosted.

Allan...borrow a helmet.

Steve, If you can not transmit the file to Edmond, then you can mail him the DVD and he can host it for you on the SCMC server.

Thanks,

Tony

You can go ahead and purchase a current issue helmet. They usually are good and eligible to run in events for around 5 years.

Cool! That would be a fun event. October is a long way off, but if I can work it out, I'm in.

I've heard a lot of positive response from this thread. I'm almost tempted to book the entire weekend...

I was thinking an 05 would be good until 2015, is that correct or am I wrong?

I was just trying to stretch out the usefull lifespan as long as allowable to get the most use possible out of it. (It's part of being an accountant - however, I do believe in buying quality product so no beans here )
