Raced a Turbo TA.....

Well I don't really call it a race, but he seems to be telling everyone that he killed me by 2 car lengths..........

.......Well it was a Saturday night and I was hanging out on Franklin in Gastonia like I normally do with the rest of the Mustangs that hang out with us. Couple of my friends had to go places and I stayed out talking with a TA owner that parked where I was. He's talked with me before about my car and the mods I have. A bunch of he's friends (all TA owners, 5 of them) pull up and start talking racing and stuff. A couple of them ask me if I wanted to race, but I told'em no, not on the street (too many tickets for me ) So everyone was leaving the parking lot and I decided to head home. I pulled out behind all of the TA's and just followed. A couple of them were messing around and would race a little and back off.
Then all of them slow down to like a 10mph roll (speed limit was 35) So out of the 3 lanes I pass on the left and was on my way home?! Nope, as soon as I passed them they all got behind me. One on each side of me and 3 taking up all the lanes behind me. The silver Turbo TA got beside me and started jumping at me. I got in the turning lane to head home and everyone else followed? What the hell, I guess I'll have to race someone or they're going to follow me til I do.

So as we went down the road, he started jumping at me. Ok now it's just annoying. So I finally throw it in 2nd and let the motor rev...(he's got an Auto) so I hear him throw his in 1st and we set there for a few minutes at a 10-15mph roll. He takes off and I just hit the gas - wheel hop/spinning - so I let out of it and he's still going (fish tailing all over the place). I figure that is good enough for a race so they'll go on there merry way. They make a U-turn in the middle of the road and I just keep driving on home...

...next day my Mustang friends are calling me telling me that he's saying that he stomped me by 2 cars? What? Ok, so I guess I'll have to show him what a real car will do....if I see them again I'm going to "pipe" at them and take it to the interstate I-85. Then we'll see how he runs his mouth.

If that doesn't work, I'll just give it a couple weeks until I get the KB installed

Oh well, just thought I'd share with the rest of the group!

oh yeah, and while I was talking with them they were saying how a 8sec. 1/8th mile was a fast car?

Tell them to bring their cars to drag day in the Fall and be a man. Let them settle it once and for all on the track. That would give the winner bragging rights. If they back out and don't come or find some lame excuse not to attend then they are not worth your gas money.

The TA and the SS are close to the same. I got a freind with an 2000 SS. He won't even try to take my Cobra. When I got it we went for a ride in her. He got out and with his head down, said maybe if I had a manual trans but I don't think it'll be close. He now plans to drop a stroker in the SS to keep up.
Good thinking on your part. (not racing on the street)
Take him to the track, and snake bite him.

That's the thing, he has his Turbo "hiden" underneath the car at the rear. It kind of replaces the left rear muffler.
I'm really not sure what boost he's running, I've heard he's only pushing 3psi cause he doesn't have an intercooler, but then I hear 7psi? So I'm not sure, but my guess is with the Turbo so far back, it can't be as useful as if it were closer to the engine, could it?

Here is a link to a Chevy rear turbo add on.

I wouldn't want my source of air in my rear wheel well. I'm sure it works, but for how long.

You can blame that on the cheezy Y-pipe GM uses to reduce cost. Also with that set up, you now increase the volume of air on the intake side of things. That to me seems a bit ineffective as well as restrictive. If the inlet tube is in the rear wheel well, I guess rubber dust and tire smoke is a good thing for the turbo as well as the air filter getting clogged up with it. Just imagine that long pipe used as an intake may have a better use as a dual exhaust. I guess that rusty chunk of metal flying out from under the car is the turbo blowing appart after it siezes up. I guess I have to check it out for some S$G's.

At least you did the right thing. Racing on the street can be an issue especially since the other driver could not maintain proper control of his vehicle.

After reviewing the web site, I still think the Cobra in stock trim would keep up. The numbers were not too impressive as for the gains considering the LS what has more displacement than the 4.6L.

That is exactly the same kit he has on his car! The only thing you see is the filter, but if you're driving behind him you can somewhat see the turbo. Oh well. I was supposed to meet him out there this weekend, but it was drizzling a bit and they don't come out in the rain.

A couple of the TA's started hanging out with the mustangs now and they're pretty cool. The other guys just don't want to hang out and talk they're all about racing.
