Just Purchased Have Questions

I just purchased a 1998 Ford Mustang Signature Series Cobra and am looking for specs on it. Also the dealer told me it was 1 of 500 made and was wondering if anyone knows where this is marked at if at all. I can post pics of the engine and car if it will help.

Thanks,

I think all cobra's are signature serise. I talked with one of my friends who had owned one and he said it is the svt singature on the engine. I looked up the color and interior of my car and there were 551 of the same paint and internor color. I also found out I can call 1-800-FORD-SVT and get a certiifcate if I fax my registration to them that shows the production number.

well, cobra's are made in limited # production, so maybe that's just a special term they used to make is sound more special?

If you wanna find out your specific make # of your car, call the SVT and they can send you a very nice certificate

Okay, now I see. Yes all of the mod motor Cobras are signed by the builders of that particular engine. You will have to give Ford SVT your VIN number in order to obtain your "Certificate of Authenticity".

You can also go to the Ford SVT archives to retrieve more information about your particular year and color.

Congrats on your new purchase!

Thanks to all for all of your help. I have another question. My Cobra has a flowmaster exstyst system. Is this standard, a option or was it aftermarket?
Also if it was additional can I find how much HP it added?

Thanks Again,
Tom

i'm almost positive that flowmaster is an aftermarket, and more then likely, gains from an exhaust arn't gonna be extensive.

Exhaust alone, i'd assume that you're looking at no more then 4-8 HP tops.

However, HP always varies, as everyone knows....the only way to really find out would obviously be to do a dyno.

Most 96-98s are supposedly pushin around mid-to-high 260s RWHP stock. However, due to variances in milage and age, its no surprise to see mid-to-high 250s for other 96s. That should at least give you a mark to start from.

Congrats on getting a Cobra. As for parts on the car, if it does not have a ford sticker and part number on it, aftermarket is your best bet. That does not make it bad either. There are thousands of aftermarket parts out there and some exceed in quality of what is factory and some are sub par. At least you can always find a part even if ford does not have it.
