Finally!

Emily was delivered by emergency c-section at 4:27 am this morning. Leah went into full labor at 9:00 pm last night and things were going well until the baby dropped. At that point Emily's heart rate started dropping with every contraction. They switched to an internal monitor thinking the readings were erroneous and being caused by the monitor being unable to differentiate between the two heartbeats but the problem continued. So the Dr. ordered the emergency c-section and less than 10 minutes later we were all in the operating room. They found that the cord was wrapped twice around the neck and once around the body. This had the effect of hanging Emily and each contraction was choking her to death. There were a few tense moments with Leah also during the procedure where she would stop breathing and her heart rate dropped but they were able to restabilize her and get her heart rate back up. I can't begin to describe the emotions that took place as I held Emily so that Leah could see her while they finished the operation.

Emily is fine and Leah is recovering from the surgery. She is in a lot of pain, even with the morphene, and the hospitals wonderful inability to provide adequate cooling to the room is making it hard for her to get any rest. They are anticipating that she will be released to go home on Friday.

Thanks guys! We are truly blessed, especially with the outcome. All of the doctors are amazed at how Emily looks and that she showed no signs of trauma from the experience. They will have Leah up and walking some today and she had them remove the morphine drip last night because she said she had not used it since around noon yesterday.

Guess it is time to start Cobra fund #3...

Don't remind me! That will start in 07 if all goes according to plan as I am currently diverting funds to broaden my horizons even more starting this fall.

Thanks everyone! Well, in another twist they got to come home a day early. So, Emily got her first ride in the Cobra today when they came home.
